Ex-Red Sox World Series Champ Robbed by Fan in Savannah Bananas Fenway Game

The Savannah Bananas brought their traveling baseball party to legendary Fenway Park in Boston this past Saturday and brought back some special Boston athletes and former Red Sox players to join in on the fun.

One of those guys was Brock Holt, a former infielder who spent seven seasons in Boston and won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2018.

Holt made a dramatic entrance for his at-bat, walking through the stands before making his way to home plate while the sold-out crowd gave him a huge ovation. Then a few moments later, he suffered the unluckiest of outs as a fan caught his foul ball, which per Savannah Bananas rules counts as an out.

Here's the fan robbing Holt of a chance to get a hit in front of a crowd that wanted to see the best for one of their former players. And yes, this guy was immediately booed for doing what he did:

Not cool, dude!

Tarik Skubal’s Massive, 14 Strikeout Opener Propelled By a Pitch Years in the Making

It may have taken six years, but Tarik Skubal has finally found his money pitch. And the Guardians were feeling it in Game 1 of the divisional round on Tuesday.

These Guardians know Skubal well. In addition to facing him three other times this season, they faced him just days ago in a crucial Tigers loss, one that helped cement Cleveland’s huge comeback to secure the AL Central title that, at one point, Detroit had a 15.5-game lead on Cleveland.

So, it was reasonable to wonder whether Skubal’s pitching would be effective Game 1, or whether the Guardians would have him figured out.

"It means a lot to take the ball in Game 1," Skubal said to a scrum after the game. "To have the trust of our whole organization, teammates, coaching staff, it means a lot."

Ultimately, he rose to the challenge of that honor, helping secure Detroit's 2–1 win. Skubal held Cleveland to a single earned run in 7.2 innings of work with a career-high 14 strikeouts. Propelled by his pitch, Skubal brought a strong body of work.

Skubal’s changeup to thank for huge Game 1 victory

Skubal’s changeup has emerged gradually year over year as a proportion of his pitching profile, with it finally overtaking his four-seam fastball as the most-used pitch he threw in a season in 2025 (31.4% frequency).

Here's a look at just how long this pitch has taken to emerge as his most used and most dominant:

So it was only right that on Tuesday, in an important Game 1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians, the majority of his 14 strikeouts came on the changeup, now his best pitch, dialed in over a number of years.

Seven—of half of his total strikeouts—came on the changeup. Twelve out of the 23 times he threw the pitch resulted in a swinging strike, with it being hit in play just three times.

"I was just kind of worried about executing each pitch and trying to do my best to live pitch-by-pitch… getting ahead and getting guys into leverage," Skubal said of his performance after the game.

The changeup went for a hit twice in the game: One was a soft ground ball by Angel Martinez, the other a line drive hit 105.5 MPH off the bat by Kyle Manzardo. Overall, the Guardians managed a single quality hit on the pitch all afternoon.

Tarik Skubal's slider was important, too

The changeup is, of course, a pitch that seldom gets the job done on its own. As a slower pitch, it’s one that catches hitters off guard after the pitcher has shown them something faster in the repertoire.

Skubal most frequently used the slider as his immediate setup pitch (the pitch right before the strikeout pitch) in Game 1. The slider was his strikeout pitch, but it served a clear purpose, forcing Guardians batters into seven foul tips and overtraining them to the ever-so-slight speed difference from the changeup.

Skubal strikeout on Tuesday was a swinging strikeout, proving just how well his deception worked as a result of the sequencing, for which catcher Dillon Dingler deserves credit for as well. Neither of the two hits off the changeup came with the slider as the setup pitch.

Asked about the slider usage after the game, Skubal laughed and said, "Is Dingler coming in here? Yeah, I don't know, he calls it and I throw it. That's kind of it. That's kind of how all of it goes. There's like two shakes a game and the rest are him calling it, and I just try to throw it."

Notably, his curveball, thrown just four times, was set up by a slider the lone time it baited a Cleveland batter to swing at it, and miss, on Tuesday.

It was a strong afternoon at the office for Skubal, putting the Tigers just a game away from advancing and finally putting the 2025 Guardians in their rearview.

Yankees' Turnaround Against Mariners Was First of Its Kind in Almost 50 Years

Through seven innings of their game against the Seattle Mariners Thursday, the New York Yankees' chances looked bleak. Mariners pitcher Bryan Woo was dominating—holding his opponents hitless.

And then, with no warning, the Yankees awoke.

New York topped Seattle 6–5 Thursday in a dramatic 10-inning contest ended by designated hitter Aaron Judge's walk-off sacrifice fly. The nature of the Yankees' turnaround—going from hitless through eight innings and down by five or more runs to victors—had not been seen in Major League Baseball since 1977.

In that instance, the Pittsburgh Pirates weathered seven hitless innings from Montreal Expos pitcher Wayne Twitchell to turn their own 5–0 deficit into a 6–5 win.

In addition to Judge, New York's comeback was aided by three RBIs from catcher Austin Wells and a pinch-hit home run from Giancarlo Stanton.

If the Yankees want to rescue their flagging American League East hopes after a mediocre stretch, there's no better place to start.

Cruz Azul

Corbin Carroll Crushes Two Triples to Reach MLB Milestone Not Seen in a Decade

If you click through Major League Baseball's single-season record-holders for triples, chances are you'll be spending a lot of time in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Heavy balls and an emphasis on baserunning made that era the golden age of taking three bases. Pirates outfielder Owen Wilson's 36 triples in 1912 remain a record. The only other two 30-triple seasons—by New York Metropolitans first baseman Dave Orr and Orioles infielder Henry Reitz—came in the 1890s.

Fast forward to 2025, where Diamondbacks right fielder Corbin Carroll seems to be on a one-man crusade to bring the triple back. Against the Guardians Tuesday, Carroll clubbed a pair of three-baggers—his 15th and 16th of the season.

Each represented a milestone. The first triple, Carroll's 15th, broke Arizona's franchise record—jointly held by Carroll in 2024 and shortstop Tony Womack in 2000. It also made Carroll the first player with 15 triples in a season since Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario in 2015.

The second triple, Carroll's 16th, made him just the third player to hit that number since 2010; Mets shortstop Jose Reyes and Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino both had 16 in 2011. Nine players reached that mark in the 2000s, led by Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson's astounding 23-triple 2007.

Wilson's record appears likely to stand forever, but if anyone in the 2020s is to make his ghost shudder, Carroll seems to be the man.

Eberechi Eze reveals the ‘special’ Arsenal player who has impressed him most since joining as he lifts the lid on life under ‘incredible’ Mikel Arteta

Arsenal summer signing Eberechi Eze has opened up to former team-mate Adebayo Akinfenwa on the latest episode of GOAL’s Beast Mode On podcast and lifted the lid on his new life with the Gunners. The England international has explained which Arsenal player has impressed him the most so far and revealed what it's like to work with manager Mikel Arteta.

GOAL’s Beast Mode On Podcast, hosted by Adebayo Akinfenwa, welcomes guest Eberechi Eze to talk about life at Arsenal following his big-money move to the Emirates Stadium this summer from Crystal Palace.

Eze has joined a host of new recruits in north London in a squad packed full of talents and admits there's one player in particular who has caught his eye at the club. The England international has also revealed he's thriving playing in an environment when all the players are eager to improve.

Eze thriving at Arsenal after summer move

Eze swapped Crystal Palace for Arsenal in a £60 million move as part of a big-spending summer by the Gunners who also brought in stars such as Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi and Cristhian Mosquera. The winger has gone on to feature regularly for Mikel Arteta's side and appears to have settled into life quickly with the Gunner, scoring twice already in the Premier League. Eze has now opened up on his journey to becoming an Arsenal and England star.

AdvertisementGOALEze lifts lid on 'special' Arsenal team-mate

Speaking exclusively to GOAL's Beast Mode On podcast, Eze said: “Everyone is sort of what you expect them to be. The expectation of all the players is high. I'll say one player who has gone even beyond the high expectation I already had – because I'd heard good things about him – was Jurrien Timber. He's a special player and a special guy.

“I think for me, in an environment of people and you have a culture that is geared towards improving, these guys all want to improve. So for me it's a pleasure to be part of it and to see guys like him who perform the way they perform, who carry themselves the way they carry themselves. It’s inspiring, for sure.”

Getty Images Sport'Incredible' Arteta creating 'special place' at Arsenal

Eze also spoke about working with Arteta. The Arsenal boss currently has his team four points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table also topping the standings so far in the 2025-26 Champions League.

Asked what it’s like working under the Spaniard, Eze said: “He’s incredible. Attention to detail, how much I’m learning so fast, the type of player I know I’ll become (under him), the culture he’s created… It’s a special place to be right now, for sure.”
