Players and their net worths

Soccer Players are known for being one of the highly-paid athletes on the planet.

They are followed by UFC fighters or NBA basketball players. Most people find the amounts soccer players are paid outrageous. Some players have admitted that they themselves think they are getting paid too much.

Some have gone as far to donate to medical research or to health organisations.

In this article we go over the net worth’s of popular soccer players and what kind of lifestyle they are living.

1. Wayne Rooney – $170 million

Wayne is a native English soccer player. He was born in Croxteth, Liverpool.

His net worth is estimated to be around 170 Million USD. In the peak of his career as a soccer player, he had an annual salary of $28 Million. He played and helped Manchester United win the premier league 5 times. After this, he also received a lot of awards/honours like Premier League Player of the Season and FIFA Club World Cup Most Valuable Player of the Final. Rooney has landed multiple sponsorship deals with several top NASDAQ companies, including Nike, Nokia, Coca-Cola, and Ford. Also, he has been seen working with varios online casino chains. On the popular site of spinsify.com you can find all the highest rated online casinos.

2. Neymar – $200 Million

Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior holds Brazilian nationality. He was born in Mogi das Cruzes.

His net worth is estimated to be around $200 Million. In the soccer industry he is considered one of the best players in the world. He played for various teams around the world, like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Of course, the Brazilian national team picked him up as a member of their team. Back in 2017 Neymar signed a 5 year contract with Paris Saint-Germain where he currently plays and has an annual salary of $78 Million.

By this, he is officially the highest paid player in salaries and probably also the highest paid athlete.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo – $500 Million

Ronaldo is a native Portuguese athlete with a net worth of $500 Million. He is the highest paid athlete that earns his money outside of his football salaries. He pockets an easy 120-170 Million through sponsorships and various endorsements.

Cristiano Ronaldo is on pace to earn more than $1 billion in his career from salary and endorsements, a milestone that no other footballer has passed. Known as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano has earned his place among legends such as Pele, Maradona, and George Best.

Leeds eyeing Armando Broja

Leeds United are keeping tabs on Chelsea striker Armando Broja, according to 90min.

The Whites are in the market for a new forward in what has been an extremely busy summer already at Elland Road.

The club’s main target appears to be Club Brugge star Charles De Ketelaere, who they view can play as an inside forward or a secondary forward to support Patrick Bamford.

Leeds are thought to be in pole position to sign the 21-year-old ahead of AC Milan, but it looks as if Victor Orta and co are also tracking other forwards as potential alternatives.

The Latest: Monitoring Broja

90min provided an update regarding Broja on Tuesday, claiming that Chelsea are yet to make a decision regarding Broja.

They add that West Ham were readying an offer last month, while Everton have a serious interest, with Leeds and Newcastle also keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-46/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: Shrewd alternative?

Broja, who Albania national team coach Sergio Porrini hailed as ‘devastating’, has scored 24 senior goals during his career for club and country.

He appears to be an out-and-out centre-forward and has limited experience of playing in a deeper role or out wide. However, Leeds are after players who can put the ball in the back of the net, something Broja did against the Whites last season during his loan spell with Southampton.

So, should the club miss out on De Ketelaere, Broja could be a smart alternative target after a positive star to his senior career, providing the price is right.

Leeds: Orta interested in a goalkeeper

Leeds United are considering a move to bring a backup goalkeeper to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

In a recent report for The Athletic, Phil Hay revealed that, with Victor Orta having already made a number of additions to Jesse Marsch’s first-team squad this summer, the Spanish director of football and his Leeds transfer team are also discussing the possibility of a move to bring a recognised number two to the club in the coming weeks – with one shot-stopper reported to be of interest to the Whites being the out of contract Ben Foster.

In his article, the journalist wrote: “Leeds have spoken about sourcing a more experienced second-choice goalkeeper but that would be a more peripheral signing, a move that made no material difference to their strongest line-up on paper. Their plan is a long way down the line, so far avoiding the risk that a busy and delicate window becomes messy or gets out of hand.”

“Unreal” signing

While it is undeniable that Illan Meslier will remain as Marsch’s first-choice goalkeeper heading into the 2022/23 campaign, with the relatively unproven Kristoffer Klaesson as the 48-year-old’s only realistic backup to the France U21 international, it would indeed appear an extremely wise move for Orta to bring in an experienced option in the position this summer.

And, while he is very much in the twilight of his career at the very top of the English game, considering his availability on a free, coupled with his impressively long career spent in the Premier League, Foster would very much look to make a fantastic addition to the American’s options between the sticks next season.

Indeed, with £30k-per-week stopper is one of the most experienced ‘keepers still playing the game, enjoying largely successful spells with the likes of Watford, West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City and Manchester United in the top flight.

Furthermore, the former Leeds United number one, Paul Robinson, quite clearly believes the 39-year-old who Alexander Abnos dubbed “unreal” would make an excellent addition to Marsch’s side this summer, stating in an interview with MOT Leeds News last month:

“Illan Meslier has been excellent and I think he’s the out-and-out number one simply because he’s got no competition.

“Next season, if he gets injured or suspended, they’ve got no quality number two. And if he has a dip in form – which will happen at some point – the manager’s got no choice but to stick with him and ride it out because he hasn’t got a good enough number two to put in.

“They have to go for a quality one. If you look around the Premier League, the other teams have quality goalkeepers. Everyone carries a top-quality number two who can do the job.

“I heard a link with Ben Foster and I think that would be an outstanding signing if they were able to pull it off. He’s somebody with experience who Meslier can learn from. But he’s also equally as good to step in and play should Meslier not be able to or wasn’t in form. It’s an area they have to address this window.”

Indeed, it is difficult to disagree with the former England stopper’s opinion, as, with Meslier demonstrating last season that he is not immune to a dip in form – something that is only natural for a ‘keeper as young as 21 years of age – the signing of a more experienced pair of gloves ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign would appear a must for Orta – leading us to believe that Foster on a free would be an outstanding signing for the Spaniard to get over the line in the coming weeks.

Celtic must secure Joseph Okumu transfer

Celtic have seen numerous players come and go at Parkhead throughout the current transfer window.

One deal that the Hoops have secured over the past few weeks is a permanent move for Cameron Carter-Vickers following his loan deal with the Bhoys last season.

Bearing in mind how the former Tottenham defender ended the previous Premiership campaign with 22 tackles won and more interceptions made (43) than any other Celtic player, it’s easy to see why the Hoops were keen to bring him back to the club on a permanent basis this summer.

As there are still some weeks left before the transfer window closes, this could give Ange Postecoglou the chance to strengthen his defence even more and bring in a player who could form a scary partnership alongside Carter-Vickers.

One player who has been mentioned with a move to Parkhead this summer and who could fit this particular bill is Gent centre-back Joseph Okumu.

After making 41 appearances for Swedish club Elfsborg, the centre-back joined his current employers last summer.

In 47 appearances for Gent so far, the defender – who is currently earning £2.1k-per-week – has found himself on the scoresheet three times. However, it’s his defensive capabilities which will have caught the attention of Celtic and potentially make him a solid addition to their ranks alongside Carter-Vickers.

Throughout his 27 appearances in the Belgian league last season, the Kenyan ended up making 49 interceptions and winning 41 tackles, the third-highest for each metric at Gent.

This highlights how tough an opponent he can be without the ball and shows the similarity of attributes that he has in comparison to Carter-Vickers.

Lauded as “something special” by Dan Egner, Okumu could be a smart prospective signing for Celtic this summer, not just because of the unflappable defensive partnership that he could form with Carter-Vickers, but also given how Christopher Jullien has been linked with a move away from Parkhead this summer.

Should the Hoops seen an opportunity to land the Gent defender in the coming weeks, this is a potential deal that the Scottish champions should not think twice about completing.

Spurs could launch Nicolo Zaniolo bid

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Nicolo Zaniolo in the coming days…

What’s the word?

That’s because sporting director Fabio Paratici has landed in Italy this week as he looks to sort out several transfers, in which the AS Roma star could feature in his plans.

“Fabio Paratici arrived in Milan: Thursday summit with Milan for [Japhet] Tanganga. Possible Italian solutions for [Bryan] Gil (like Sampdoria). But also incoming targets like Zaniolo,” Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo tweeted.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder should be a name familiar with Spurs supporters as he has been linked with a move to north London on several occasions – last summer, Corriere dello Sport revealed that Tottenham once had a bid rejected for him (via Sport Witness).

Roma are expected to receive between €40m (£34m) to €50m (£42.5m) for his signature.

Conte dream

It’s believed that manager Antonio Conte is open to the signing of a new no.10, a playmaker of sorts, and that’s what he could well find in Zaniolo, who is also capable of playing on the wing and deeper in the engine room.

Thus making him something of a dream signing for the Italian head coach.

The versatile midfield dynamo has struggled with injuries in Rome over the course of his career so far but that hasn’t stopped him from registering 37 goal contributions across 111 appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

Once on the books at Inter Milan, the Italy international certainly looked back to his best under former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho last season, not just playing a total of 42 games but he also delivered an eye-catching eight goals and nine assists.

The likes of Said Benrahma, Adama Traore and Wilfried Zaha are all comparable players in the same sort of statistical profile, according to FBref, so that could hint towards Zaniolo being an instant success in the Premier League, given the experience and quality of the top-flight trio.

Elsewhere, the Roma sensation has received plenty of praise, perhaps the most glowing came from his former Inter coach, Stefano Vecchi, who compared him to Frank Lampard.

“He has the characteristics to become a modern mezzala. He’s a [Steven] Gerrard, [Frank] Lampard-type player,” he said (via GOAL).

Meanwhile, Roma legend Francesco Totti has lauded the £34m-rated maestro as “explosive” and believes he has “everything it takes to become a truly great player”.

Paratici could not only fill the massive no.10 void at Hotspur Way by signing Zaniolo but he may also hand his manager a versatile talent with bags of potential, strength and pace.

As such, the Lilywhites sporting director must come away from his meetings in Milan with a deal in place for Zaniolo as he would add an abundance of quality to this ever-evolving Spurs squad.

He’s surely something of a dream signing this summer transfer window.

Arsenal ‘would be interested’ in signing Leroy Sané

Arsenal ‘would be interested’ in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane if he became available, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

According to a report by Bild (via Mundo Deportivo), the Gunners are keen on signing the former Manchester City man, with manager Mikel Arteta still on the lookout for a fresh winger having missed out on Leeds United star Raphinha, who opted to join Barcelona.

The Germany international left the Premier League champions two years ago after a £54.8m fee was agreed to with the Bundesliga giants.

With three years remaining on his Bayern contract, Sane’s market value is said to be £54m, having dropped from its £90m peak in 2019.

The Latest: Taylor’s claim

Taylor believes that Sane is the calibre of attacker Arsenal should be targeting this summer.

Speaking with GiveMeSport, the journalist claimed: “Sane is an interesting one because we haven’t seen the same Sane we saw at City at Bayern, so whether that means he could become available, I don’t know.

“It would be fair to assume Arsenal would be interested in a player of his quality, he’s world-class on his day and he’s Premier League proven, so I do think he’s the kind of player they’ll be looking at, but nothing concrete at the moment as far as I’m aware.”

The Verdict: Great signing

When looking at the 26-year-old’s underlying stats, it is easy to see why Arteta would be interested in bringing the winger to the Emirates this year.

As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, the German ranks in the 99th percentile for shots total and in the 97th percentile for non-penalty goals plus expected assists.

The Gunners losing out on Raphinha suggests that Arteta isn’t completely happy with the options available to him at the Emirates, otherwise the arrival of Gabriel Jesus would’ve met their attacking quota.

If Sane does become available, Arsenal would be foolish not to do all they can to sign him.

NUFC given green light to sign Wijnaldum

Newcastle United have made three signings so far this summer but have been linked with many players in the transfer window, and a new update has now emerged from a reliable source on a potential transfer target.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Paris Saint Germain and Georginio Wijnaldum have come to an agreement for the player to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer, giving Newcastle the green light to sign him.

Romano tweeted: “Paris Saint-Germain and Gini Wijnaldum have decided to part ways this summer, confirmed. Work in progress to find new club as soon as possible, PSG are prepared to loan him out in the next days or weeks.”

It was reported ahead of the January transfer window that Newcastle had shown an interest in reuniting with their former midfielder after he was offered out to a number of clubs for a potential loan move.

It’d be a big coup

Newcastle have come a long way from the days when Wijnaldum was occupying a role in the Magpies’ midfield, with a huge takeover, a new direction and a new chapter for the club, but there is no doubt that the Dutch midfielder would be a big coup for Eddie Howe’s side.

The 31-year-old spent just 12 months on Tyneside, making the move to Liverpool when Newcastle were relegated to the Championship in 2016, and he went on to thrive under Jurgen Klopp.

Wijnaldum, who was dubbed “sensational” by the Reds manager, went onto win the Premier League and Champions League on Merseyside, tallying an impressive 237 appearances, scoring 22 goals and delivering 16 assists during his time at Anfield until his contract expired in 2021.

The £21m-valued Netherlands international then made the move to PSG on a free transfer but his role in the team has been far from appreciated over in France, starting just 18 league games under Mauricio Pochettino, so it is clear that the move to Paris hasn’t been a hugely beneficial one for either the player or the club.

Howe has begun his rebuild of the Newcastle squad, and adding a player with Wijnaldum’s Premier League experience and winning mentality could be a big coup for the Magpies manager.

With that in mind, the signing of the 31-year-old could be a great move for Newcastle if they want to bolster their midfield options ahead of their mission to climb  into the top half of the table next season.

Man Utd linked with ‘giant’ De Jong alternative

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Lille midfielder Renato Sanches, according to Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy.

The Lowdown: Midfield options

Erik ten Hag has made three signings so far this summer, but he is yet to bolster his holding or central midfield ranks.

Attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen has arrived on a free transfer and looks set to rival Bruno Fernandes, leaving Ten Hag with just two defensive midfielders and two central midfielders.

It appears to be an area the club wants to strengthen, with United agreeing on a deal with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong. A move has proven complicated on the player’s side, though, which has led to links of alternative targets.

After discussing interest in both De Jong and Wolves’ Ruben Neves, Sky Sports journalist Reddy told The Transfer Show that ‘the other name loosely floated’ has been Sanches.

The journalist stated that the player is better as a box-to-box midfielder instead of an anchor but isn’t too sure of a move to Old Trafford at this moment in time.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-updates-6/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: One to watch?

Sanches, who was dubbed a “giant” and “physically and technically perfect” by Tutto Mercato Web (via Sempre Milan), is into the final 12 months of his Lille contract.

The Portugal international is still just 24 years of age but already has plenty of experience at the highest level with the likes of Benfica, Bayern Munich and Lille.

Therefore, he could be a shrewd addition at Old Trafford to fill a problem area, and who knows, a move could also be fairly cheap given his contract situation.

Arsenal eyeing move for Sandro Tonali

Arsenal are now eyeing a move for Sandro Tonali after holding a meeting with his club, AC Milan, according to reports…

What’s the word?

Italian journalist Enrico Camelio told Calciomercato that the Serie A champions and the Gunners “met and talked about” the 22-year-old midfielder recently.

It’s thought that a €55m (£46.5m) offer would be enough for Milan to sell the Italy international this summer, despite him being a key part of Stefano Pioli’s plans.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is on the lookout for a new midfielder and it seems that Tonai has emerged as a potential target.

Xhaka upgrade

Unlike last season, Arteta’s side kickstarted the new Premier League campaign with a victory, defeating Crystal Palace on Friday night.

The Spaniard has been well-backed in the market once again, with Edu Gaspar and his team bringing in five signings, all of which have surpassed the £110m mark.

But it appears that they aren’t finished yet and it’s easy to see why as outside of the main group, Arteta lacks substantial quality in depth and the engine room is one area of concern.

Behind the likes of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka, there are limited options. Albert Sambi Lokonga, who arrived last year, is really the only backup, so Tonali could begin to solve this problem, if not improve it tenfold.

The young dynamo is a hugely impressive young talent and one that has the potential to usurp the Swiss maestro in the pecking order.

As per WhoScored, Tonali was Piol’s third-best performer in the Serie A in 2021/22. From a defensive midfield role, he provided five goals and two assists, and also averaged 1.2 key passes and one shot per game.

He was equally adept defensively too, managing 1.5 tackles and ranked inside the top 15% for number of dribbles tackled (44.4% total), when compared to other central midfielders in the Italian top-flight.

Xhaka, meanwhile, has always been a contentious figure in north London. There’s always an air of uncertainty whenever he’s named in the starting lineup as you just don’t know what Xhaka you’re going to get.

As Arteta’s 12th-best performer in the Premier League last season, the former club-captain has been lambasted as an “absolute liability” by talkSPORT pundit Dean Saunders, having racked up 69 yellow cards and five red cards across his 251 appearances.

Tonali could step up to dethrone the Switzerland international should he make the switch.

Once lauded as a “leader” by former Hungary head coach Marco Rossi and dubbed “extraordinary” by his ex-Brescia boss Eugenio Corini, it’s clear that at just 22, the Milan star has all the attributes to succeed at the Emirates Stadium.

His presence would not only add some much-needed depth but would also put some of the Gunners’ inconsistent performers on their toes. Therefore, Edu must follow up this meeting with a formal offer.

AND in other news, Edu could seal a “special” 6th Arsenal signing in £50m “genius”, he “wants to join”…

Man City deal for Renan Lodi is now off

Manchester City will not make a move for Atletico Madrid defender Renan Lodi.

What’s the news?

That is according to Fabrizio Romano who took to Twitter in order to share a slither of good news but then a portion of bad news too, as he revealed the latest on two of Pep Guardiola’s transfer targets.

He said: “Manchester City are preparing all the documents for Sergio Gómez deal to be signed soon – it’s all done since yesterday [Wednesday] for more than €15m.

“Renan Lodi has been Man City target in July but talks are not progressing. Understand the deal is off, as things stand.”

Guardiola should be gutted

Although the arrival of Gomez is much-needed considering the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko and the failed pursuit of Marc Cucurella, the idea that Guardiola won’t be able to land a player with as much quality and experience as Lodi is sure to have left him gutted.
After all, this is a player cut directly from the Pep playbook, with the full-back possessing all the offensive tools and positional familiarity to be a success in his City side.

After making 50 appearances for his boyhood side Club Athletico Paranaense he scored four goals and provided eight assists before the Brazilian joined Atletico back in the 2019 summer transfer window.

Since then, the 24-year-old has found the net six times and supplied nine assists in 116 appearances across all competitions.

With 29 La Liga appearances to his name last season, the left-back chipped in with two goals and two assists along the way, proving himself to be a handy operator in the final third.

He also delivered 41 crosses in total throughout 2021/22, leaving only three other Atletico players with more, which highlights how dangerous he can be going forward as he acts as the supply line from the left flank for his attacking teammates.

With Joao Cancelo (103) the only City defender to make more crosses in the Premier League than the £64k-per-week Brazilian did for his side in the league last term, it shows just how effective he could have been in Guardiola’s side.

To further highlight what sort of a player he is, Atletico manager, Diego Simeone, had this to say about him after he scored both goals in the club’s 2-0 win over Celta Vigo back in February: “Lodi is a hard-working, humble player who deserves all the praise and support.”

With his clear attacking talent on the pitch and the attributes he has off it that Simeone spoke about, this is surely a player that Guardiola would love to have had at his disposal this season and he should be gutted that City won’t pursue a deal for both him and Gomez. They are both very much-needed in order to give the Manchester club more depth.
