Everton: Mikel Arteta and two more managers who could replace Marco Silva

Everton have definitely seen some better days in the Premier League. The Toffees are currently sitting in 16th and Marco Silva’s job is hanging on a thread that’s just waiting to snap. And seeing how things are unlikely to suddenly get fixed, it wouldn’t be a stretch to presume Everton might be looking at other options in the near future.

With all of that in mind, here are three options for the club to target in the likely scenario in which Silva is eventually fired and the hot seat suddenly becomes available.

Mikel Arteta

Arteta still doesn’t have a solo manager stint under his belt but having spent more than three years under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage and having won two Premier League titles with him in the process, he could certainly be someone to watch out for.

As a player, the now 37-year-old assistant manager spent a significant portion of his career on Merseyside before moving to Arsenal and finally to retirement.

Arteta might seem like a risky option considering his lack of any management experience but he is also someone who looks every bit like the next big thing in the coaching gig.

Everton scooping Guardiola’s protegee just might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Rafa Benitez

The 59-year-old Benitez is a name well-known to the world and especially to the Premier League.

Still, considering that he is currently in charge of Dalian Yifang over in the lucrative Chinese Superleague, it might be difficult for Everton to lure him back to the island. But his appointment does make sense on paper.

[ad_pod ]

After all, Benitez has a clear record of winning and even more importantly, winning in England, having coached the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and most recently, Newcastle, who enjoyed quite a successful spell under the 59-year-old gaffer.

With his experience in managing teams both small and big, Rafa certainly looks like someone who could get the Toffees out of their slump.

Niko Kovac

At first, this looks rather unlikely.

After all, why would a former coach of a giant such as Bayern Munich accept a gig at a decent but far from elite Premier League side which is struggling to stay afloat? Well, even though Kovac’s name still rings loudly and seems like a profile levels too high, it becomes much less of a stretch when you think about it.

Apart from managing Croatia and Bayern, the now 38-year-old free agent doesn’t really have any other gigantic teams to put on his CV and after a failed project in Bavaria, he just might be looking for a lower-profile gig to get him back onto the horse.

Taking charge of Everton, who are currently in shambles, might just be enough of a challenge and yet a less pressuring stint that would potentially benefit both parties.

Worth a shot.

Liverpool fans react as Coutinho linked with Leicester move

Philippe Coutinho’s career hasn’t gone according to plan since he left Liverpool for Barcelona in 2018.

The Brazilian playmaker is currently on loan at Bayern Munich having failed to impress at the Nou Camp, and it seems his future lies away from Catalonia.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror, the 27-year-old will be sold by the club when football resumes once again.

A handful of clubs in the Premier League are interested in bringing him back to the division where he catapulted his reputation, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur both enquiring about his services in recent weeks.

You would expect clubs of that stature to pay an interest in a player of Coutinho’s quality, but Leicester City are also, rather surprisingly, mooted as a potential destination.

Brendan Rodgers would reportedly love to work with the midfielder once again, though he is acutely aware of the Foxes’ inability to compete with the likes of the Red Devils in the transfer market.

In response to reports, plenty of Liverpool fans offered their thoughts.

Some suggested a move to the King Power Stadium would represent a step down while others hinted it could be an ideal destination.

Here’s how the Reds faithful reacted to the report…

West Ham challenge Everton for Marseille right-back Bouna Sarr

West Ham United are reportedly interested in a move for Marseille right-back Bouna Sarr, according to L’Equipe.

What does the report say?

The Hammers look set to target a right-back this summer as they look to improve on the current options of Ryan Fredericks and the ageing Pablo Zabaleta.

According to L’Equipe, one player that David Moyes and his recruitment team have their eye on is Marseille man Sarr, who has become a regular at the Stade Velodrome since his arrival in 2015.

Aged 28, he has made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists.

The report states that Everton are also keeping an eye on the French-born player, who has been offered the opportunity to represent both Guinea and Senegal, while Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg are said to hold an interest.

Cashing in?

Sarr’s form this season has clearly attracted plenty of interest and Marseille could look to cash in this summer.

At 28 years old he is now in the prime of his career and while there are lots of clubs keeping an eye on him, any moves will be informed by how the season’s suspension impacts their transfer budget.

West Ham are one club that will likely be affected but they will still need to strengthen the right-back position as Zabaleta nears the end of his contract, so. they may still explore a deal for Sarr if the report is to be believed.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans welcome William Carvalho transfer link

Some Wolverhampton Wanderers have welcomed a transfer link to William Carvalho after Transfer20 reported that the Midlands club are interested in signing the Real Betis man.

As per the report, Leicester, Tottenham and West Ham are also interested in the ace who is valued at €30m (£26.3m). Carvalho is apparently tempted to play in the Premier League and the article claims that Betis would welcome a capital gain if they are to sell him to a British club.

Being from Portugal, the 28-year old would arguably suit a move to Wolves, with their Portuguese contingent as strong as ever. Carvalho may relish playing with players like Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in the heart of midfield, as well as having compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.

In a season scuppered by injuries, the central midfielder has only made nine appearances in La Liga this campaign, according to Sofascore.

Nevertheless, these Wolves supporters welcomed the transfer link on Twitter:

West Ham: Fans recall their reactions when Carlos Tevez signed

A fan page has asked West Ham fans what their reactions were when Carlos Tevez signed for the club and a lot have replied emphasising how surprised they were by the transfer.

The Argentina forward made the move to east London in 2006 from Brazilian side Corinthians for around £13.14m, asper Transfermarkt. No one could have imagined the impact the striker would have in his only season at the club as he played 29 games, scored seven goals and picked up five assists. His goal at Old Trafford on the final day of that campaign ensured the Hammers’ top-flight safety.

His great debut season in the Premier League would not go unnoticed as he was then signed by Manchester United before moving to the Red Devils’ crosstown rivals Manchester City.

At the two Manchester clubs, Tevez would win three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and the Champions League before moving on to Italian giants Juventus. He clearly is a serial winner and for the Hammers to have found him at the time was a great bit of business.

Here is what these West Ham fans had to say following the tweet:

Everton fans desperate to avoid Djibril Sidibe permanent deal

Fresh reports from France have sparked Everton fans into all saying the same thing on social media.

According to L’Equipe, via Sport Witness, AS Monaco are ready to cut their asking price for Toffees loanee Djibril Sidibe to ensure a permanent move to Goodison Park this summer.

The Merseyside outfit have a €14m (£12.6m) option to buy but it’s claimed that the Ligue 1 club are needing to offload deadwood and the right-back is among those they are keen to move on.

But supporters clearly don’t want that to happen…

A resounding “no” appears to be the answer to whether or not the Toffees faithful would have him at the club.

The 27-year-old has played 24 times in all competitions this term, where he has provided five assists, via Transfermarkt. Sidibe has also averaged 3.7 tackles, two long balls and 1.8 interceptions per game.

Yet he still hasn’t won over fans in Merseyside.

The reported clause of €14m has also caused a stir with some believing they can get much better in the transfer market.

One fan even took a swipe at director of football Marcel Brands for yet another blunder, referencing Jean-Philippe Gbamin, who has just been ruled out for a further six months.

It remains to be seen if Carlo Ancelotti will enact the clause or even try to negotiate a lower fee for Sidibe, but clearly, it would go down like a tonne of bricks at Goodison Park.

Brighton & Hove Albion: Viktor Gyokeres admits uncertainty over his Seagulls future

Brighton forward Viktor Gyokeres has admitted that he doesn’t know whether or not he has a future at the club.

The 22-year-old has just returned to the Amex Stadium following a loan spell at German second tier outfit St. Pauli and, while he has hinted that he would like to remain a Seagulls player, he confessed that his career is currently in some limbo.

He told Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen [via Sussex Live]: “It’s a good club playing in the Premier League, so it’s clear you’re aiming for it, but we’ll see what happens. Otherwise, you can take it from there. Right now, I don’t know what will happen next season.

“But you can see what alternatives there are if I’m not in Brighton. I hope to be there. I’m not thinking about it right now or talking to my agent. Right now, I have a little vacation from everything and then I’ll be ready for next season. I don’t really know what they are thinking. It’s hard for me to say.”

Gyokeres hit seven goals and provided four assists in 26 league appearances at St. Pauli this season, a contribution which proved crucial as the Hamburg-based club narrowly avoided relegation to the third tier.

The Swedish attacker had an impressive match average of 1.9 shots in 2. Bundesliga, while a return of 1.8 successful dribbles per game shows that he is adept at taking on opposition defences (as per WhoScored).

He has struggled for recognition at Brighton, though, making just five senior appearances for the Seagulls. Those all came in domestic cup competitions in the 2018/19 campaign, with three games as an unused substitute the closest he has come to getting a run in the Premier League. [via TransferMarkt]

The 22-year-old boasts the versatility of being able to play as a centre-forward or left-sided winger, with the occasional appearance on the right flank also highlighting his ability to feature anywhere across the front line (as per TransferMarkt).

Gyokeres has put his best foot forward for recognition by Graham Potter with his form for St. Pauli during his loan spell, although the Brighton manager already has an abundance of attacking options at his disposal such as Neal Maupay, Aaron Connolly, Leandro Trossard and Glenn Murray.

Indeed, such is the competition for places in the Seagulls’ attack that Alireza Jahanbakhsh hasn’t even been able to make it into recent 20-man matchday squads and has been linked with Ajax (De Telegraaf) and PSV Eindhoven (Voetbal International).

Right now, it appears that the Swedish forward has an uphill task on his hands to forge his way into Potter’s plans for next season.

Wolves fans drool over Daniel Podence

Wolves got their quest for a top-six finish back on track on Sunday, beating Everton 3-0 at Molineux in what was a very impressive performance.

The Midlands club got a lot right against the Toffees, keeping a clean sheet and carving out a lot of chances, but despite a number of good showings throughout the team, there was one man who stood out above the rest.

Six months after signing for the club, Daniel Podence finally got his chance to start his first Premier League game, and he definitely made the most of it.

The Portuguese winger ran the show, winning Nuno’s side the penalty that put them 1-0 up and proving a nuisance for the opposition defence all afternoon, completing four dribbles and having two shots on target before being subbed in the 70th minute.

The 24-year-old’s dribbling ability created a plethora of chances for the home team, and fans loved what they were seeing from their January signing, who seems to finally be emerging after failing to start a league game for his new club until this point.

The former Olympiakos man’s dribbling skills led to a number of fans comparing him to one of world football’s biggest names.

Indeed, plenty of Wolves fans noted the similarities between their man and Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard, and if the 24-year-old goes on to have a career half as good as the two-time Premier League winner, he will go down as a Molineux legend.

It remains to be seen if Podence can build on this performance, but to make this sort of impression on your first Premier League start can only be a good thing, and if he keeps it up, Nuno may soon have a selection headache on the wings.

Tottenham Hotspur: Mourinho hit by huge blow as Dele Alli is ruled out of Arsenal clash

Tottenham meet Arsenal in the first ever north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

Spurs will know they face an uphill battle to reach the top four and beating their arch rivals on Sunday would be a major step in the right direction.

However, they will have to face the Gunners without Dele Alli, who has been ruled out of the clash.

Speaking to a press conference before the game, Jose Mourinho revealed he has not recovered from a hamstring injury in time and will not take part.

The Portuguese has already suffered a setback, as Eric Dier has been banned for four games, meaning he will miss the weekend fixture as a result, although this one will also sting.

Indeed, Mourinho has been hit by a huge blow, as Alli is the club’s third-highest goalscorer this season.

The 24-year-old, who moved to White Hart Lane for £5m from MK Dons, has a solid record against the Gunners, as he has scored 2 goals and supplied 2 assists in 9 previous derbies so far.

Alli had started strongly since the Premier League restart, as he was part of the side that thumped West Ham 2-0 at home, after missing the draw with Manchester United due to suspension.

Spurs have only won one out of the last four games against Arsenal, with their most recent victory dating back to a League Cup win in 2018, which will give Mourinho cause for concern, as he needs to pick up as many points as possible to keep their realistic chances of Champions League qualification alive.

Mourinho may be forced to rely on Erik Lamela instead, which is unlikely to fill him with much confidence. Lamela has struggled for consistency all season and is evidently a downgrade on the Englishman, as he has received a lower WhoScored rating for his performances so far.

Tottenham fans, do you think Alli’s presence will be missed against Arsenal? Let us know down below!

Predicted Everton XI vs AFC Bournemouth for Premier League finale

Everton’s disappointing 2019/20 campaign draws to a close later this evening following the Premier League’s final set of matches.

The Toffees have nothing to play at Goodison Park for but they do welcome AFC Bournemouth who are fighting to stay in the division.

Last time out, Carlo Ancelotti’s side picked up their first victory in four outings, so what sort of line-up the Italian field today?

Here’s what we are predicting…

The 61-year-old could make two changes to the side that defeated Sheffield United last week.

One of which is likely to be amongst his backline – and no, it doesn’t seem as if Leighton Baines will get a fairytale ending at the Merseyside outfit. Instead, it’s a swap on the other flank with skipper Seamus Coleman coming back in for loan man Djibril Sidibe.

It means young Jarrad Branthwaite keeps his place at centre-back alongside Michael Keane with both Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina out injured.

The three-man midfield of Andre Gomes, Tom Davies and a more advanced Gylfi Sigurdsson is likely to remain too, meaning the second and final alteration is in an attacking position.

Veteran winger Theo Walcott, who cost the Toffees £20m in 2018, is dropped with 19-year-old emerging talent Anthony Gordon coming in on the left.

Everton’s joint-top goalscorers both start – Richarlison on the right with Dominic Calvert-Lewin leading the line on his own.

Moise Kean has been a doubt for this one and is unlikely to be risked.
