– Jogar no nosso campo é sempre melhor.

Vanaken would have been a Lanzini upgrade

West Ham United were heavily linked with Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken throughout the summer transfer window, and the Belgium international could have been a big upgrade on Manuel Lanzini in David Moyes’ squad.

The Hammers submitted a number of bids for Vanaken, who was reportedly keen on a move to the London Stadium, but a deal could not be done before the deadline, with the 30-year-old remaining at Club Brugge.

Lucas Paqueta instead joined the Irons in a club-record deal from Lyon and the Brazilian could be a quality addition if he continues his form from France into the Premier League, having contributed nine goals and six assists last season.

However, the arrival of Vanaken could have paved the way for Lanzini to leave the London Stadium, and it now seems as if the Argentine will be paid £70k per week to sit on the bench for much of the season, potentially until his contract expires next summer.

Last season saw Vanaken manage 11 goals and nine assists in 39 league appearances for Club Brugge in earning a 7.25 WhoScored rating, while he also impressed for Belgium in World Cup qualifying.

He netted three goals and four assists in just five appearances in that campaign for his national team and earned a 7.91 WhoScored rating, which emphasises his ability to play at the top level with world-class players such as Kevin De Bruyne.

According to WhoScored, he excels at through balls, key passes, dribbling and passing, which are all desirable attributes for an attacking midfielder. Also, at 6 foot 5 he can provide a big threat in the air, which has been a big part of West Ham’s success in recent campaigns, with 14 goals scored from set pieces last season.

Club Brugge manager Carl Hoefkens spoke about Vanaken’s influence amid West Ham’s interest during the summer, saying: “Hans is an incredible player who has already done a lot for this club. He also has a big influence on our way of playing football.”

By comparison, Lanzini contributed just five goals and three assists in 30 Premier League appearances for Moyes’ side in 2021/22, averaging a disappointing 6.64 rating from WhoScored.

Therefore, it is a shame that West Ham couldn’t agree on a deal with the Belgian champions for Vanaken, as he could have been a much better fit in Moyes’ team than the Argentine.

Arsenal strong contenders to sign Mudryk

Arsenal are strong contenders to sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in January, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Mudryk wants to join Arsenal

Fabrizio Romano revealed earlier in the summer that the Gunners had been in contact with the 21-year-old’s agent regarding a potential move, but a deal failed to materialise before the deadline.

The forward recently admitted in an interview with CBS reporter Ben Jacobs that he would be open to joining Mikel Arteta’s side to achieve his dream of playing in the Premier League.

The Latest: Arsenal’s new status

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones insisted that Mudryk’s confession is a ‘promising’ sign for Arsenal, who are now able to attract big-name players. He said:

“It’s definitely promising, not just even in terms of this signing, but I think in general terms. If you go back a year, Arsenal just weren’t sure what type of player they could attract anymore.

“Now, as soon as they’ve got back in that conversation of being in Europe, as soon as they’ve had a good start to the season in the Premier League, everyone’s suddenly open about the idea of joining them again. And this is where they’ve managed to propel themselves in terms of status.”

The Verdict: Get it done…

Arteta made it a priority to find a new winger towards the end of the summer window having let Nicolas Pepe join Nice on a season-long loan, and Mudryk could still be the perfect replacement.

The Ukrainian, previously likened to a new Neymar by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, has already recorded four goal contributions in the same number of games this season, carrying on his impressive form from last campaign, when he provided seven assists and netted two goals in 11 Premier Liga appearances (Transfermarkt).

This is no doubt a deal that would suit both parties and one that Edu and the Gunners should look at trying to get over the line as quickly as possible in January.

Aston Villa: Jacob Ramsey ruled out of Liverpool clash

Aston Villa will be without Jacob Ramsey for tonight’s Premier League clash against Liverpool due to injury.

The Lowdown: Ramsey a regular for Villa

The midfielder, who Steven Gerrard labelled a ‘top talent’, has been a regular for the Villans this season, making 32 appearances in all competitions.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/aston-villa-latest-updates/” title=”Aston Villa latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 20-year-old has scored six times in the Premier League and has missed just three top-flight games, with the latest coming in the 3-1 win at Burnley on the weekend.

Gerrard was hoping to have Ramsey back in the squad for the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side to Villa Park, but it doesn’t look as if that will prove to be the case.

The Latest: Groin problem for Ramsey

As reported by Birmingham Live, the 20-year-old will miss the clash against the Reds due to a groin problem.

Gerrard said there is an ‘outside chance’ that Ramsey could return against Crystal Palace this weekend, but the youngster will be forced to watch on from the sidelines tonight alongside Leon Bailey and Kortney Hause.

The Verdict: Options for Gerrard?

Calum Chambers, Douglas Luiz and John McGinn linked out in a three-man midfield on the weekend, with Emiliano Buendia in an advanced role behind Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins.

The trio may all keep their places in the starting line-up, although Gerrard does have options even with Ramsey missing once again. Teenagers Carney Chukwuemeka and Tim Iroegbunam were on the bench against the Clarets last time out, along with more experienced midfielders Morgan Sanson and Marvelous Nakamba.

Therefore, even with Ramsey out, Gerrard still has plenty of midfielders available to shake things up, but after a 3-1 win at the weekend, he may resist making wholesale changes to his team.

SAFC need Ross Stewart amidst Rangers links

League One play-off finalists Sunderland face a summer battle to keep their Scottish sensation known as the “Loch Ness Drogba”.

As reported previously, Rangers are said to be “keeping tabs” on Stewart, who has had the most prosperous season of his life in what is his first full season in England’s third division.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke, revealed the latest last week when speaking to GIVEMESPORT, saying: “It looks like he’s obviously on their wanted list, Ross Stewart. It’s been talked about now for quite a few weeks that Rangers are keeping tabs on him.

“If Rangers do come calling, it’s going to be hard for somebody like Ross Stewart – a Scottish player – to turn down their advances.”

On the chalkboard

Stewart, whose goal against Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs set off a “jumbo jet” in the words of Luke Edwards, has been an integral part in the Black Cats’ journey to the League One play-off final this season and has asserted himself as the second-highest goalscorer in the league, having notched 25 goals in 48 appearances for Alex Neil’s side.

At 25-years-old, he has finally had his breakout season and it has benefited Sunderland no-end. To the point where his presence in the squad is truly felt and if he was to leave, amidst the reported interest from Rangers, it would represent somewhat of a summer disaster for the Tyneside outfit.

The Scot, who could cost any suitor around £5m, has been so integral to Sunderland’s season that if he had not featured, they would go from League One’s third-highest goalscorers with 81 goals scored (just one goal behind both Oxford and Wigan who are tied in first place) to the sixteenth highest scorers with 56 goals scored.

With that in mind, it’s hardly surprising that his efforts have been dubbed “unbelievable” by Kris Boyd.

Stewart has proven himself as an out-and-out goal machine this season, and if Sunderland are to achieve their ambition of Championship promotion this season, then the need for the forward to stay will elevate that bit more.

Though, as O’Rourke said, if Rangers do come calling, it would be difficult for a Scottish player to turn them down. As a result, the club’s current boss will surely be scared over his star man’s future.

Celtic handed boost ahead of Motherwell

Celtic are back in action for the final time this season on Saturday as they take on Motherwell in their first game since being crowned Premiership champions in midweek.

Their 1-1 draw against Dundee United at Tannadice was enough to seal the league title and officially reclaim domestic superiority from their Glasgow arch-rivals.

Giorgos Giakoumakis put the Hoops ahead less than 10 minutes into the second half on Wednesday, only for the home side to find an equaliser later on. Despite this slight hiccup, a point was all that was needed to confirm Celtic’s status as league champions.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash, it seems as though the Hoops may have been handed a potential boost which could improve their chances of securing another victory in front of their home fans before the campaign draws to a close.

What’s the news?

Speaking in his latest press conference on Friday ahead of the clash, Motherwell manager Graham Alexander was discussing the current situation regarding his squad.

He said: “We’ve had a few calls in between Wednesday and today, with a couple more players dropping out with illness, which has been going around for a couple of weeks now.

“Unfortunately, it has been contagious and people have been breaking down with it, so we’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning to see who is OK and sort of pick a team from that, really.”

Taking this into account, it turns out that the Motherwell squad are not in the best shape, with some players potentially out of tomorrow’s game through illness, which is not an ideal situation for the travelling side.

In the three league games that Celtic have played against the Well this season, Ange Postecoglou’s side have won every time, scoring seven goals and keeping a clean sheet in all three.

Not knowing who may or may not be available to play would be a big concern for Alexander and his side, who presumably will be looking to rain on Celtic’s parade by picking up a draw or a win.

On the flip side, this could well play into the hands of Postecoglou the Hoops, who may now have a smoother game ahead of them to end their impressive season, which would surely delight the Parkhead faithful on what will be a day of celebration.

West Brom can axe Kipre by signing Lenihan

West Bromwich Albion manager Steve Bruce has spoken in recent weeks about the potential transfer overhaul he’s looking to complete at the Hawthorns this summer.

One potential move that has been reported could see current Baggies defender Cedric Kipre leave the club this summer.

Since arriving at the club back in September 2020 from Wigan Athletic, the centre-back has made just 19 appearances for the Baggies across all competitions.

This latest season saw the 25-year-old appear just 14 times for his side in the Championship, the latest of which coming all the way back in January.

This shows just how much Bruce doesn’t fancy him and why it’s not a surprise to hear that the Baggies boss would be willing to see the Frenchman leave this summer.

Previously slammed for his “shocking” tackle on Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack that kept him sidelined for six months back in December 2017, Kipre may now be on the lookout for a new club to join.

In terms of who the Midlands side could look to bring in as a suitable replacement for the Frenchman, one figure the Baggies have been linked with that could fit the bill for Bruce is Blackburn Rovers defender Darragh Lenihan.

With a total of 219 appearances in the Championship under his belt, the 28-year-old certainly has more experience at this level than Kipre, who has just 88 games in the second division to his name.

This season saw the Irishman end Blackburn’s campaign with the second-highest number of interceptions (58) and third-highest number of tackles (43) to his name in the Lancashire club’s squad.

His overall performances earned him a season rating of 7.1/10 from WhoScored, making him Blackburn’s highest-rated player.

To put that into perspective, this rating would also put him as West Brom’s highest-rated player for the recent campaign.

To further highlight how impressive the £14k-per-week centre-back is, Rovers boss Tony Mowbray had this to say about him back in December.

He said: “He’s right at the top of his game, you can tell the way he’s dominating, he’s towering over players inches taller than him, his passing he looks so assured, long passing, short passing.”

Moving forward, with Lenihan’s contract at Ewood Park set to expire at the end of June, potentially cashing in on Kipre and securing the Blackburn star on a free transfer could be an excellent bit of business from Bruce and the Baggies.

Wolves closer to signing Joao Palhinha

Wolves are reportedly ‘closer’ to signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Palhinha, with the Portuguese maestro heavily linked with a move to Molineux over recent weeks.

What’s the story?

That’s according to Correio da Manha, via Sport Witness, who claimed that Bruno Lage’s side are nearer to signing the 26-year-old.

Palhinha is set to leave the Portuguese giants, with Molineux his most likely destination, having gone through the youth ranks at the Lisbon club.

Lage is certainly in the market for a midfielder this summer, particularly with the possible departure of Ruben Neves, and his compatriot could well become the latest name on a long list of Portuguese talent to have played for Wolves in the Premier League.

Wolves must secure Palhinha deal

It looks increasingly likely that Neves will move on to bigger things this summer, whilst Joao Moutinho still hasn’t signed a contract extension at Molineux even though the 35-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June.

Even if the veteran midfielder is to extend his stay in the West Midlands, he isn’t a long-term solution, with him turning 36 in September.

Therefore, adding Palhinha to his ranks would be crucial for Lage, who will be keen to learn from the mistakes in his first season as a Premier League manager, as a woeful end to the season prevented the Black Country outfit from securing European football.

Valued at £23.4m by Transfermarkt, the Portuguese midfielder – who was dubbed a “special player” by his manager Ruben Amorim – made 38 appearances in all competitions for Sporting this term, with his side finishing runners up to Porto in the Primeira Liga.

That included six appearances in the Champions League, with the 26-year-old playing the full 90 minutes of their 5-0 first leg defeat to Wolves’ Premier League rivals Manchester City in the round of 16.

With an 88% passing accuracy and an average of 53.4 touches per match in the Portuguese top flight this term, it appears as though Palhinha is ready for a move to the Premier League, and what better destination in England right now for an exciting Portuguese talent than Molineux?

Although the completion of a deal would almost certainly prelude the exit of Neves, Wolves fans should be excited about the prospective addition of a quality midfielder with plenty of top-level experience and approaching the prime of his career.

Liverpool: Big Mane update emerges

Liverpool are set for a big summer in terms of their transfer window after a huge update has emerged from a reliable source.

What’s the latest?

According to popular Liverpool insider @DaveOCKOP, Sadio Mane has agreed to a three-year deal with Bayern Munich to join them this summer.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

The 300k followed account tweeted: “Sadio Mane has agreed a three-year contract with Bayern Munich. PSG and Barcelona were also interested.

“He has spoken directly to Julian Nagelsmann. Now up to clubs to agree a fee. Liverpool and Bayern Munich began official talks yesterday [Tuesday].”

Supporters will be devastated

Mane has been a consistent and key player at Anfield for six years now and has been one of the most important influences in their success, winning a Champions League, Premier League title, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Premier League golden boot since his arrival in 2016.

The Senegalese winger has scored 120 goals and delivered 48 assists in 269 appearances for the club, with a goal contribution every 128 minutes which is an extremely impressive output that Liverpool will struggle to replace in the team.

Jurgen Klopp has always been full of praise for his player, hailing Mane after scoring the winning goal against Aston Villa this season:

“He’s a machine, I told him after the game,” the German coach claimed.

“Massive player. [His] physicality is brutal, this mix of technique, desire, and physicality in this moment when everybody has a few yards in the legs…you can see it with him to be honest. Top goal, just fantastic, a world-class player.”

This season, Mane was hugely influential in the Champions League campaign which saw Liverpool reach their third final in the prestigious competition in five years.

The 30-year-old star scored five goals this season in the competition, with two of those goals coming in the semi-finals against Villarreal scoring in both legs to guide his team comfortably into the final in Paris against Real Madrid.

As a result of the above, fans will surely be devastated that his exit from Anfield is now gathering pace.

FSG must make it a top priority to replace the winger as soon as they can this summer to recoup the number of goal contributions that Mane offers the team.

They will evidently have a difficult task in identifying the players that can make an instant impact that can seamlessly fit into the team next season.
