Nottingham Forest fans are loving Ben Osborn’s recent performances

Nottingham Forest fans on Twitter were delighted with the performance of winger Ben Osborn once again as the Reds picked up all three points with a 1-0 win over Rotherham on Saturday.

The Millers came into the game with a defensive setup and neither side managed to record a shot on target in the first half at the City Ground. However, after the break Aitor Karanka’s side ramped up the pressure and record signing Joao Carvalho crashed a shot against the post.

Forest keeper Costel Pantilimon was only called into action once throughout the whole game, but it took the Reds 86 minutes to eventually break the deadlock. Osborn ran onto a Joe Lolley pass and was brought down by Rotherham’s Ryan Williams in the box.

Lewis Grabban converted the penalty to record his second goal in two games, but it was Osborn who really impressed as Forest took maximum points from their two games this week. Check out the best tweets in reaction to the 24-year-old’s performance below.

Iheanacho has hit the nail on the head with assessment of Leicester and Newcastle

Newcastle United will be looking for their first Premier League win of the season when they take on Leicester City at home later today.

Rafael Benitez’s men currently find themselves in the relegation zone having only taken two points from their opening six games and, therefore, are likely to approach their upcoming match with the Foxes as a must win.

But Leicester striker Kelechi Iheanacho is confident his side are perfectly suited to countering Newcastle’s style and capable of inflicting more misery on the club.

The Breakdown

Speaking ahead of the clash at St. James’ Park, Iheanacho told Footballlive.ng: “They [Newcastle] play with a lot of people in front of the ball. But they can also suffer because they defend with few people.

“They make you suffer and despair, because they always have the ball, but our intent must be make the most of our opportunities and break quickly. The teams that have made Newcastle United suffer are those that played quick counter attacks, pressurising well. We are going to compete, with much respect but no fear.”

This season, Benitez and Newcastle have come under fire for their negative approach to clashes against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City. But as alluded to by Iheanacho, in most other fixtures, the Magpies do tend to try and take the game to opponents — especially at St. James’ Park.

That, however, could be their downfall in their encounter with Leicester; Claude Puel’s man are one of the best counter-attacking teams in the country.

In Jamie Vardy, the 2016 Premier League champions have a striker who is absolutely devastating on the break, while Iheanacho is no slouch himself.

And with summer signing James Maddison also in terrific form, Leicester will definitely fancy their chances against a struggling Newcastle side.

Revealed: 80% of Newcastle fans would be delighted to sign Gotze

[ad_pod ]

Not too long ago, the notion of Gotze signing for a side like Newcastle United, whose priority this season is to avoid relegation from the Premier League, would have been inconceivable. Much has changed for Gotze, who earns £150,000-a-week according to Silly Season, in the intervening years since his famous goal won Germany the 2014 World Cup though.

Now, the 26-year-old finds himself to be an outcast at Borussia Dortmund. His form has been on a continual slide since he re-joined the club in 2016 and he didn’t even make the matchday squad for the last Bundesliga match, never mind the starting XI.

It seems as though a change would be the best thing for Gotze’s career at this stage, but the continent’s elite level clubs are unlikely to be attracted to the attacking-midfielder at this time.

The Magpies could capitalise upon this situation by offering Gotze a chance to revive his ailing career at St James’ Park. If Rafa Benitez could get the once-lauded playmaker back to his best then the Premier League outfit would have secured a major coup, and even though he may not currently be the player he was, he would still be the best signing of the Mike Ashley era.

Buying Gotze outright would be a gamble, but probably one worth taking. Otherwise, Dortmund would likely be open to a loan deal for the No. 10 in January which would represent little risk to the Magpies.

We asked Newcastle fans if they’d like to see the club bring Gotze to English shores, despite his long-standing poor form, and 80% said yes. See the full results below.

Arsenal fans are excited by Miguel Almiron transfer link

[ad_pod ]According to 90min.com, Atlanta United ace Miguel Almiron is set to join Arsenal in January. The 24-year-old has been in fine form for the MLS outfit in recent seasons. In the 2018 campaign, the attacking-midfielder scored 12 goals and racked up 13 assists in 31 appearances. As well as being able to produce end product, the Paraguay international is also exceptionally technically gifted and boasts great pace.[brid autoplay=”true” video=”303880″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch Fixture in Focus Liverpool v Man City”]Almiron may well have been identified at Arsenal by the Gunners’ head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat. The former Borussia Dortmund talent spotter has a reputation for finding some of the brightest young prospects in the game. The Atlanta United man could be the next top talent that Mislintat brings to the Emirates Stadium.Whilst many Arsenal fans won’t know much about Almiron, plenty have still expressed their excitement over his potential arrival. Tottenham Injury News: Danny Rose drops out of England squad

[ad_pod ]Danny Rose is amongst the latest withdrawals from the England squad that will face Croatia and Spain in the Nations League during the current international break.

How long will he be out for?

It’s yet to be confirmed but Rose has been struggling with a groin injury for some time now, and Tottenham were aware of it before the international break – with Mauricio Pochettino telling the press last weekend that the left-back would need to be assessed by the national team.

“It was the same as it was after Huddersfield, a problem in his groin. He felt it again. Hope that nothing important but of course we need to assess. He needs to go to the national team and see what happened. He needs to check in with the national team.”

He’s now left the squad with what has been described as a ‘minor injury’, so we can only assume that after a going over from England’s medical staff it was decided that the games against Croatia and Spain wouldn’t be worth the risk of further aggravating Rose’s groin complaint or potentially even making it worse.

Premier Injuries still have next weekend, October 20th, as Rose’s expected return date – so he could well be back in action by the time Tottenham travel to West Ham upon the Premier League’s return.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”305269″ player=”12034″ title=”Are Emery’s Arsenal Silently Gunning For The Title”]

Club vs County politics?

“The first responsibility is always the player’s. I think he felt from the beginning a problem but carried on playing. Players always push to play because they want to play.”

Perhaps. Pochettino wasn’t pleased when Dele Alli picked up his current injury during the last international break against Spain but carried on playing. Although his frustrations seem to be directed more towards the attacking midfielder than England’s medical setup, it does feel like there are underlying tensions – perhaps harking back to the World Cup, when Alli and Harry Kane were both kept on the pitch for extensive periods despite clearly suffering from injury and fatigue respectively.

Maybe because the Nations League isn’t being taken so seriously, Rose has been allowed to return to his club rather than asked to push himself in a game that continues to divide opinion in terms of importance. That’s just a theory but Tottenham have made up the biggest contingent of the England team over the last few years, so there’s certainly value in Southgate keeping them onside.

Two Bens get a chance

While we’ve got our cynical hats on, it’s worth noting that Rose only dropped out of the squad after Luke Shaw’s withdrawal was already confirmed. With both battling to be England’s long-term left wing-back, Rose might have took the risk on his fitness to stake a claim for the No.3 berth if Shaw was still involved with the camp. Now, Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell has a chance to prove himself as England’s only natural left-sided defender – he’ll most likely start both games.

At club level, meanwhile, if Rose’s problem proves to persist we could see Ben Davies get the nod at left-back instead when Tottenham make the trip to the London Stadium. It will be a tough and physical game against Spurs’ bitter rivals, so even a slight niggle could end up having a massive impact on performance.

The Welshman too, needs a way back into the side after surprisingly finding himself as second-choice on the most-part this term despite doubts over Rose’s future back in the summer, and his potential chance comes at a perfect time with some big games on the horizon. Spurs face Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal by December 1st – so Davies could put himself in the picture to start those key encounters if he impresses against the Hammers.

Manchester United fans are furious with Nemanja Matic’s current form

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United battled their way to a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, with the Red Devils owing their hard-fought point to two second half Anthony Martial strikes.

Whilst the United boss, Jose Mourinho, will likely be satisfied with the draw, there will be elements of his side’s performance that will have caused him concern. For instance, the Blues were able to largely dominate the midfield battle throughout the match. Equally, United’s back line received little protection from those midfielders tasked with shielding them.

In his holding role at the base of Mourinho’s midfield, Nemanja Matic’s duty is to protect his team’s rearguard. However, he was all too easily bypassed by the home side on Saturday. The 6’4” Serbia international failed to make his physicality and experience count against his former club.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”307232″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Germany Hit New Low & Jadon Sancho Makes Us Feel Old”]

The 30-year-old has been in poor form throughout this season, and the club’s fans are beginning to lose patience with the man they signed from Chelsea in the summer of 2017. After this weekend’s match, many took to Twitter to criticise Matic’s underwhelming display…

Wolves should be pumping all their resource into trying to sign Hirving Lozano

Wolves’ six-game unbeaten run was ended by Watford at the weekend thanks to two quickfire goals.

Etienne Capoue opened the scoring of the cagey affair after just 20 minutes with a thunderbolt that gave Rui Patricio no chance. Only one minute later, their lead was doubled by Roberto Pereyra giving the visitors an unassailable lead. Wolves were unable to recover, and Watford held on for their first win since September.

Despite the defeat, Wolves will still be pleased with their performance with nine games played in the Premier League. The club are in mid-table, above Manchester United, and a few more positive results could see them make a late charge for a European place. If Wolves want to finish in Europe, they need to land a top goalscorer in January.

The perfect man for the job could be PSV Eindhoven sensation – Hirving Lozano. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the Mexico international netted 17 league goals as PSV lifted the Eredivisie title last season before helping his country defeat Germany at the World Cup in Russia. The winger’s hot streak in front of goal has continued with eight goals in just nine appearances this season.

Surprisingly, no top European sides were able to prise him away from Holland in the summer giving Wolves the perfect opportunity to secure his signature in the January window. With terrifying pace and expert dribbling ability, Lozano would be a nightmare for Premier League defenders. His eye for goal could be crucial in securing European football at Molineux next season.

It would take a mammoth fee to convince PSV to sell their prized asset, but Wolves would be a force to be reckoned with if they added Lozano to their forward line.

Wolves fans, thoughts?

Tottenham must stick with Lloris despite Champions League suspension

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur must stick by club captain Hugo Lloris, despite the Frenchman seeing red against PSV Eindhoven

What’s the word?

Tottenham have an uphill task on their hands to progress in the Champions Leauge after letting victory be snatched away by a late PSV equaliser.

Worse for the north Londoners is that all three points were lost after the club’s captain Hugo Lloris was sent off for a foul on Hirving Lozano despite the Frenchman not needing to rush out of goal.

It was just the latest in a long line of errors leading to the opposition scoring for the 31-year-old, but the mistake should not be the defining moment that ends his Spurs career.

[ad_pod ]

Against West Ham on Saturday, the best version of the World Cup winning goalkeeper was on display as he kept Spurs in a position to win the match with his vital saves.

Reaching out to the top left hand corner of his net to deny Marko Arnautovic from equalising was just the latest demonstration of why Mauricio Pochettino should once again stick by his man, having stuck by him once already this season when the club’s number one was charged with drink-driving at more than twice the UK legal limit.

Lloris also brings a wealth of experience to the Spurs side having made over 600-career appearances, 254 of which came  Tottenham, and has captained the side since August 2015.

Who could replace him?

For the next Champions League tie with PSV Eindhoven on November 6, Michel Vorm is the likely man to step in having come off the bench on Wednesday evening.

Paulo Gazzaniga, however, should be the one to get the Wembley start, having so far featured four times for Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The 22-year-old keeper is much more the future of the club than the 35-year-old Dutchman that started from the substitute bench in the Champions League, and any further minutes for the Argentinean will further show Pochettino what he has to offer the club long term.

Gazzinga’s outings for Spurs have so far shown he posses a solid awareness amongst an ability to play out from the back while under pressure, but still has a lot of work to do before the thought of being handed the number one spot comes into question.

Sticking by Hugo Lloris, therefore, is the logical answer, and should be backed at every opportunity and revered for his performances in order to avoid the goalkeeper suffering mentally which will cause his performances to worsen.

Graphic shows that Leeds fans should be worried over the next few weeks

Leeds United sit second in the table despite hitting a patch of slightly poor form over the last seven games.

Since United lost to Birmingham last month, Leeds have only won two games while also losing against Blackburn. Unfortunately for Bielsa, Leeds had lost a few players due to injury and as a result of the absences of Kemar Roofe, Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Berardi Leeds struggled to replicate their early season form.

In what will come as worrying news for Leeds fans, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, Joe Urquhart has posted a graphic which showed a huge drop off in form after 14 games last season.

The Breakdown

The graph is an interesting one and shows that there still might be some capacity for Leeds to drop off. Moreover, this year, there looks like there could be five or six teams that could finish in the automatic promotion positions this season and could seriously contend with Leeds.

However, the difference between this year’s team and last year’s is night and day. They play with pace, intensity – which could cost them in the long run – and aggression which has seen them soar to second place.

They can be troubled and as seen last weekend, Leeds can find it hard to get back into the game when they’ve conceded early into the game.

Leeds will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend as they travel to Wigan in search of a crucial three points.

Overall, the graphic should serve as something that the fans ought to be wary of but not overly concerned.

Thoughts Leeds fans?

Flying French fullback can be a superb signing for both Liverpool and Man United

Both Liverpool and Man United remain two of the biggest clubs in the world, and despite differening fortunes this season in the league, both remain attractive draws for players.

The Reds and the Red Devils will both harbour ambitions this season of winning trophies, and while their squads are full of talent, we at the Tavern think there is some scope for both teams to add some more quality to the ranks.

That’s why we believe signing Monaco star Djibril Sidibe would be a superb move by either club.

The flying French full back has been superb over a number of seasons now for both club and country, and a move to England would seem to be the next step in his career as he seeks to make a further impact and enhance a reputation which is already on the upshoot in Europe.

Sidibe possesses tremendous pace, power, and athleticism down the right hand side, and he would be the ideal sort of signing for the Premier League, with top clubs nowadays looking for pace, power, and attacking ability in the wide defensive areas.

With both clubs gunning for success, signing Sidibe would be a superb piece of business for either side, and Sidibe would be sure to be a fans’ favourite too.

Manchester United and Liverpool fans, what do you think? Would Sidibe be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
