Ben Stokes may not be able to bowl in the rest of the second Test against New Zealand after experiencing a recurrence of a knee problem.Stokes reported pain in his left knee as he completed his second over in Hamilton. While he remained on the field, the England management reported the injury would be assessed before a decision was made over whether he would bowl again in the first innings. There has been no official word of a scan from the England camp, but it would be a surprise if Stokes was not sent for one.Stokes has long had to manage his left knee. He underwent surgery on it in May 2016 after tearing cartilage while bowling against Sri Lanka and, ahead of the first Test of this series, admitted he was managing it. He was used sparingly compared to his seam-bowling colleagues in that match – he bowled 26 overs compared to Jofra Archer’s 42, Sam Curran’s 35 and Stuart Broad’s 33 – and England named an extra seamer in their second Test team partially as cover for Stokes.ALSO READ: Latham century drives NZ before rain hitsIt may be that his relative lack of mobility contributed to his failure to cling on to a chance offered by Tom Latham on 66. It was not by any means an easy chance but Stokes is probably the best catcher in this England side and will have been disappointed not to hold on. Latham went on to finish the day unbeaten on 101.Given Stokes’ importance to the team and the relative unimportance of the Test – it does not form part of the World Test Championship – it would be a surprise if he was asked to bowl for the remainder of this game.It would be premature to speculate on his fitness for the South Africa tour. But with the first Test in that series starting on Boxing Day it does not leave a huge amount of time for recovery if the problem is significant. Stokes is travelling to South Africa a few days after the rest of the squad in order to allow him to attend the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award presentation. Stokes is favourite for the award.

This match will 'boost' Test cricket – Cheteshwar Pujara

He also said “batting under lights was difficult” on the first day which prompted India to declare before tea on Saturday

AFP

India Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, has suggested that Test cricket is alive and that the ongoing day-night match against Bangladesh will put the longest format in good stead. Eden Gardens is purportedly sold out till the fourth day, and although the game looks unlikely to stretch that long, the more than 40,000-strong attendance on the first two days has buoyed the players.”When you’re playing Test cricket and when the crowd comes in, it’s always motivating for the players,” Pujara said at the press conference after the second day’s play. “I feel that Test cricket is still alive and this was one of the occasions which will boost Test cricket. As players, we do enjoy this atmosphere, especially when we’re fielding. When you’re batting, you’re always concentrating on the ball. Bowlers need a lot of support. And when we’re fielding, the moment the crowd starts supporting the bowler and fielders, it’s a great atmosphere. The bowlers are always charged up. It’s a nice atmosphere, although the game might not go on until day four, but it’s still a good experience and I’m sure the crowd is also enjoying it.”Pujara was the second-highest scorer for India in the first innings with his 55. Although he played no part with the bat on the second day, an early finish to Bangladesh’s first innings gave him a feel of both the much-discussed twilight as well as batting under lights. Pujara said that the lights made batting much harder, and this was also behind India’s decision to declare just before tea on the second day.”I think batting under lights was difficult when I batted yesterday,” Pujara said. “Even when I saw on the TV what was happening in the first session, I think the first session is slightly easier to bat. Because there’s no [artificial] lights. And when there’s light, I think the ball starts swinging a little more. So it is a bit challenging. And also the kind of experience we have, most of the Test matches we’ve played are during the day. So during the sunlight it’s easy to see the ball, whether it’s red or pink. But when it comes to lights, it is a little challenging for the batsman.”This much was evident during India’s innings. Starting the middle session at 289 for 4, India’s lower-middle order collapsed as Bangladesh’s seamers, particularly Ebadot Hossain and Abu Jayed, found prodigious swing with the second new ball. India made 58 runs after lunch but lost five wickets in doing so. With the comfort of a big lead, however, an early declaration even opened up the possibility of a two-day finish when Bangladesh were reduced to 13 for 4.”I think that was the right time to bowl because the ball was swinging,” Pujara said. “We felt that if we start bowling at that time, we can start picking early wickets, and that’s what happened. That was the right time. Dew wasn’t there. Dew started after tea time. So it was the right time.”A late counterattack from senior batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah took Bangladesh past 150 at stumps, as the dew started setting in and the lateral movement in the last session didn’t quite hold up. But India still have a cushion of 89 runs, with Bangladesh having only four wickets in hand. There is also the possibility India’s spinners might come into the picture in the day session on Sunday. So far in this Test, they have bowled only a combined six overs for 24 runs. But Pujara reckoned the pitch had begun taking turn, and that the SG ball offers something for spinners as compared to the Kookaburra one.”Not a major difference [between the two balls]. Even this ball is travelling from the bat. The SG ball is swinging a little more than Kookaburra. But I think there’s a little more spin with the SG ball. When I played Duleep Trophy with the Kookaburra ball, I don’t think there was much assistance for spinners, apart from the wristspinners. So with this ball I think there is some spin. We saw when Taijul [Islam] was bowling, he got a little spin, and [R] Ashwin also got a little bit of spin. So I think there’s little more assistance for spinners. But it is still not as much as what you get from a red ball.”

Wow: Man City set to launch move for generational superstar this summer

Manchester City are preparing to launch a move to sign an "unbelievable" generational talent this summer, according to a new transfer update.

Man City transfer news

The Citizens have assembled arguably one of the most impressive squads in the history of English football, with so much incredible depth throughout Pep Guardiola's squad. That doesn't mean that new signings aren't being looked at, with the City manager not one to rest on his laurels and allow his squad to grow complacent.

Bayer Leverkusen are flying at the top of the German Bundesliga this season, and Florian Wirtz has played a big part in that, registering ten assists and scoring seven goals in the competition, providing plenty of quality in attacking midfield. He is seen as a target for the reigning Premier League champions ahead of what could be a long and illustrious career.

Joshua Kimmich played under Guardiola at Bayern Munich, and he is another player who has been backed to head to the Etihad this summer, which would bring an end to a great spell at his current club – one that has seen him win eight Bundesliga titles and one Champions League crown for good measure.

Jack Grealish has had a below-par season, struggling with injuries and not finding his best form, and a new left-winger could be looked at to provide competition for the Englishman. AC Milan star Rafael Leao has emerged as an option for City in that respect, following a campaign that has seen him score four times in Europe, as well as pick up seven assists in Serie A.

Man City planning move for "unbelievable" star

Elsewhere, according to a report from Spain, Manchester City are ready to launch a bid for Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala this summer, seeing him as a primary transfer target.

Jamal Musiala for Bayern Munich.

The Premier League giants see the German as a key part of their squad for the 2024/25 season and are prepared to make a move for him in the near future.

Musiala looks like a generational talent, having already made such a huge impression at the age of 21. This season, he has registered 16 goal contributions (ten goals and six assists) in 18 Bundesliga starts, while Michael Owen has waxed lyrical about him, saying:

"I think he is exceptional, really exceptional. It’s such a shame he chose Germany over England. There’s lots of people comparing him to Bellingham but I think he is a different type of player. He’s a brilliant runner with the ball. I think he’s unbelievable when it comes to dribbling. He’s got the lot, this lad."

On current evidence, there is no reason why Musiala can't become one of the best players in the world over the next decade or so, highlighting why City would be mad not to try to get him this summer.

Marnus Labuschagne's hat-trick of tons lights up engrossing first day at Perth day-night Test

New Zealand’s bowlers kept their disciplines in extreme conditions to keep the match in the balance

The Report by Daniel Brettig12-Dec-2019Stumps A hat-trick of Test hundreds for Marnus Labuschagne, sealed with a straight six, belied an otherwise fascinating battle between Australia’s batting order and New Zealand’s skilful and diligent attack, even as it was shorn of Lockie Ferguson by a calf strain that may cause increasing pain for the visitors the longer the Perth day-night Test goes on.In front of a crowd of 19,084 who huddled in what shaded areas they could find on a day when temperatures hovered near 40C until the sun went down, New Zealand gave an exceptional account of themselves in the absence of Trent Boult and despite the looming threats of David Warner and Steven Smith. Both Warner, before lunch, and Smith in a lengthy partnership with the ebullient Labuschagne, had some influence on proceedings. But in each case the tourists’ discipline, fitness and commitment to the plans hatched by their captain Kane Williamson ensured that neither Warner nor Smith could get away from them. In Smith’s case it meant one of his slowest Test innings, ended in the leg trap that the unstinting Neil Wagner has set for so many international batsmen over a career that has surprised in much the same way Labuschagne’s now is.Marnus Labuschagne celebrates his hundred•Associated Press

Warner had earlier seen a promising start ended by a superlative caught and bowled from Wagner, who alongside Colin de Grandomme, Tim Southee and Ferguson formed a typically diligent New Zealand attack – something all the more admirable in the prevailing conditions.Williamson was unable to pick Trent Boult as he continues his recovery from a side strain suffered against England, meaning a debut for the speedy Ferguson. Australia were unchanged for the third match in a row. They have not lost a series at home to New Zealand since 1985.Warner made his intent known by hustling a single from Tim Southee’s first ball of the match, and while Ferguson neared 150kph in his first over, his lines and lengths were variable enough to allow scoring opportunities for both openers. Southee’s frustration at not finding an early wicket was demonstrated when he hurled a solidly defended ball back at Joe Burns, prompting an exchange with Warner who rebuked him as “you’re supposed to be Mr Nice Guy”.Ferguson’s replacement by Wagner and the introduction of de Grandhomme brought some more pertinent questions for Burns and Warner, as the run-rate was clamped. De Grandhomme’s first ball to Burns was not the away swinger he evidently expected but a nip backer that won an lbw verdict from umpire Aleem Dar, even through ball-tracking would show the ball comfortably missing leg stump as Burns was batting well forward of his crease.Neil Wagner celebrates a stunning caught and bowled•Getty Images

Labuschagne settled in quickly enough, but as tea beckoned, Warner misjudged a Wagner change-up and was on his way, allowing Steven Smith his earliest entry to the Test batting crease this summer. Warner had looked set to maintain his commanding run of form this summer, but six minutes before the interval he scooped back a low full toss to Wagner, who claimed the chance inches from the ground with his right hand as he followed through.Runs did not accrue easily when play resumed, to the extent that both Smith and Labuschagne could be seen trying to force a few shots that did not necessarily lend themselves to the types of questions they were being asked. Wagner’s angles and preference for the short ball posed challenges for both batsmen, while Ferguson had Smith flirting with balls well wide of the off stump, breaking 149kph every now and then and gaining plenty of bounce from the surface also.Labuschagne strode to an eighth score of 50 or more in Test matches this year, but Smith’s inability to turn the scoreboard over ultimately drew an outside edge from Ferguson. Maddeningly for New Zealand, Tom Latham picked up the chance late and could only throw his hands to the left as the ball burst through them. Australia were thus able to get through to the final, floodlit session with eight wickets in the bank and two formidable players at the crease.Lockie Ferguson made his Test debut•Associated Press

Things got worse for the visitors when they advised early in the final session that Ferguson had gone to hospital for scans on a calf problem. The mere fact that they were required suggesting he may well be out of the match and perhaps the whole, tightly-packed series also. With Labuschagne quickly closing on a century and Smith straining to break his shackles, this was a moment in which many sides would have flagged, but Williamson was able to conjure further efforts from his men, aided perhaps by cooler evening temperatures. While Labuschagne advanced to loft Mitchell Santner beyond long-on for only the second six of his career to leap from 95 to a joyous 101, Wagner was not deterred from his attempts to corral Smith, and he was ultimately rewarded with a distracted attempt at a hook shot and a miscue lobbing gently to Southee at leg gully. Smith was furious with himself, but the pressure had built over 164 balls – a volume of deliveries by which time he had usually passed three figures in England.Better tidings arrived for New Zealand when Southee took the second new ball and bent an inswinger around Matthew Wade’s front pad to flick the off stump as the left-hander shouldered arms to his immediate regret.Four wickets down with 47 deliveries left in the evening, made for a queasy sort of session as far as Australia were concerned, as underlined by how Labuschagne was troubled more than once to pick up the line of the ball. But Travis Head was able to survive a few nervous moments to keep Labuschagne company up to the close, even if the No. 3 offered Wagner an airy upper cut in the final over that fell slightly short and wide of third man. Australia know they have been in a fight; they have enough batting left to land some major blows on day two.

Tributação Específica do Futebol
Quanto à tributação, o Marco Legal do clube-empresa traz outra novidade: a Tributação Específica do Futebol (TEF).

Derby dropped a clanger signing star who’d be worth £11m in 2024 money

Derby County have been blessed with some potent goalscorers up top this season in their time of need, with James Collins bagging 13 league goals as the main source of goals in attack.

Free agent signing Dwight Gayle had also helped himself to three goals from six League One games, before injury disaster struck.

Paul Warne will hope Collins, who is back in the first-team fold after injury issues of his own, and the rest of his Derby teammates can get over the line as the Rams try and seal automatic promotion in the matches to come to return to the Championship.

The East Midlands outfit will stray on the side of caution splashing the cash if they do jump back up to the second tier, knowing that they could be suspectible to falling victim to another transfer blunder like this one back in 2007.

Robert Earnshaw's time at Derby

A lot was expected of Robert Earnshaw on his arrival to Pride Park, having netted 17 times from just 50 appearances for West Bromwich Albion before moving to Derbyshire.

Bagging an impressive 27 goals from just 47 Norwich City appearances too before joining the Baggies, it must have been a foregone conclusion in Derby's head that the prolific Welsh attacker would become an instant Rams hero.

Robert Earnshaw West Brom

The reality would be far more bleak unfortunately, with the £4.6m statement signing – as per TotallyFootball's Transfer Index – going on to score just two times for the Rams before departing for arch-rivals Nottingham Forest.

To add further insult to injury, Earnshaw would go on to be a star for Derby's main nemesis and come back to haunt his former employers with many a goal in matches that followed between the bitter neighbours.

When looking over this disastrous deal in the here and now, taking into account inflation courtesy of TotallyMoney's Transfer Index, the transfer mishap is exposed as being even more of a costly misfire.

Robert Earnshaw's transfer value in 2024

If the same ill-fated switch was to happen today, the Welshman would demand a far more substantial £11.9m fee to win his services – as per Totally Money.

Looking at Derby's record arrivals, that would see the Rams dud surge to the very top of the list – beating Matej Vydra to the golden medal spot in the process, who is far more well-liked by those in Derbyshire to this day for notching up 27 goals from 80 appearances.

Top five record Derby arrivals

1. Matej Vydra

€9.4m (£8m)

2. Krystian Bielik

€8.2m (£7m)

3. Bradley Johnson

€8.1m (£6.9m)

4. Tom Ince

€6.7m (£5.7m)

5. Martyn Waghorn

€5.6m (£4.8m)

Sourced by Transfermarkt

Earnshaw flopping at Pride Park likely wasn't helped by Derby finishing rock bottom of the Premier League during his only season there in truth, rooted to the foot of the table with a still record low points haul of 11.

Describing his Rams ordeal as a "difficult" time in his career during a tell-all interview with DerbyshireLive journalist Chris Watson in 2018, the now-retired striker will take some solace in the fact he managed to bounce back with Forest even if that makes the failure from a Rams perspective even harder to stomach.

No doubt, Derby failing to win promotion up to the Championship this campaign would be even more sickening with Warne keeping his fingers crossed that Collins and Co can continue firing on all cylinders.

The Derby dud who now plays in a league 14 places below English football

Derby County supporters will have forgotten about this dire flop’s existence.

Lea Tahuhu has been named in New Zealand’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad, the quick returning to international cricket after taking a break to be with her partner Amy Satterthwaite, who gave birth to the couple’s first child recently. Batter Lauren Down, seamer Jess Kerr, who made her ODI debut two days ago, and medium-pacer Rosemary Mair, who debuted last year, have also been included in the squad, with Sophie Devine named captain.Squad

Wicketkeeper-batter Bernadine Bezuidenhout, who is part of the ODI squad for the ongoing home series against South Africa, has made way for Tahuhu in the T20I squad, which will also play a five-match T20I series against South Africa that begins on February 2 in Tauranga. Down and Kerr could both be in for their maiden T20I caps during the bilateral series.Tahuhu, among the fastest bowlers on the women’s international circuit, had picked up six wickets in as many matches for Canterbury at the Super Smash 2019-20, the domestic T20 tournament, and nine wickets in 15 games prior to that in the fifth edition of the WBBL.”It’s been a whirlwind last couple of weeks – becoming a mum for the first time and everything that goes with it,” Tahuhu said in a New Zealand Cricket statement. “I’m very excited to be back around the White Ferns group. I’m grateful of Amy’s support back home and can’t wait to get stuck in at training ahead of the T20 series against South Africa.”New Zealand head coach Bob Carter was confident the team would benefit from Tahuhu’s skills and experience.”It’s great to have her raw speed and experience back in the group,” he said. “Lea offers us plenty with the ball and will no doubt hurry a few batters up, especially in Australia on their fast, bouncy surfaces. However, first up we have to contend with South Africa, who have already proven in the ODI series that they are up for the challenge over here. We know we’ll have to be at our best to claim the T20 series.”Lauren Down during her century on the tour of Australia•Getty Images

Kerr, the elder sister of allrounder and team-mate Amelia, topped the Super Smash wickets charts, taking 20 wickets for Wellington Blaze, the most in a single season of the tournament. In her maiden international outing, the second ODI against South Africa, she returned figures of 4-1-23-1, dismissing opener Lizelle Lee.Devine, whose first assignment as New Zealand captain has seen South Africa take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series, had taken over indefinitely from Satterthwaite earlier this month. Devine, along with Suzie Bates, has featured in every edition of the T20 World Cup since its inception in 2009, but they are yet to add a world title against their names.”We have a balanced side with plenty of international experience within,” Devine said after the squad announcement. “It’s up to us to put our best foot forward in these five T20s against South Africa and hone our game before another shot at a World Cup.”New Zealand, who play their third and final ODI against South Africa on Thursday in Hamilton, have been pooled with Australia, Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka at the T20 World Cup. They will kick off their campaign against Sri Lanka on February 22 in Perth.
