Senne Lammens is an international player! Man Utd goalkeeper keeps clean sheet on Belgium debut as Red Devils destroy Liechtenstein to book World Cup spot

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens enjoyed a dream international debut as Belgium stormed into the 2026 World Cup with a ruthless 7-0 demolition of Liechtenstein. It was a landmark evening for the 23-year-old, who not only kept a flawless clean sheet but also watched his team-mates tear their visitors apart with a clinical, seven-goal masterclass.

Belgium blitz their way into another World Cup

Coach Rudi Garcia demanded a rapid start, and his players delivered with ruthless precision. After just two minutes and thirty seconds, Youri Tielemans swung in a measured cross that Hans Vanaken steered into the net with a glancing header. It was the early breakthrough Belgium wanted and Liechtenstein dreaded. Despite holding firm for another half-hour, the visitors eventually cracked under relentless pressure. Alexis Saelemaekers found space on the byline, cutting the ball back perfectly for Jeremy Doku, who finished unmarked from the spot. With confidence flowing, Doku struck again minutes later, this time after pouncing on a loose clearance, dancing past three defenders, and guiding the ball into the corner. By half-time, Belgium were cruising at 3-0. The second half, however, produced an explosion.

Eight minutes after the restart, Tielemans flicked a corner into a dangerous area, allowing Brandon Mechele to prod home a fourth. Three minutes later, Tielemans’ long-range strike forced a save from Benjamin Buchel, but Saelemaekers reacted quickest to smash in the rebound. Barely sixty seconds passed before Charles De Ketelaere joined the party. Doku turned provider, rolling a pass across the box for De Ketelaere to tuck home Belgium’s sixth. A minute later, Thomas Meunier surged down the flank, squared to De Ketelaere again, and the forward coolly fired in his second. At the other end, Lammens had only one save to make.

Lammens' meteoric rise continues

For Lammens, a clean sheet on his international debut marked another milestone in a rapidly ascending career. United signed the Belgian star late in the summer window after cooling interest in Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez. Lammens called his deadline-day move "a dream come true" and "the beginning of something special". Since then, he has featured in five Premier League matches, conceding seven goals but earning widespread praise for his composure, agility and shot-stopping. He played a pivotal role in United’s October revival, helping the side secure consecutive wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton. His performances have drawn comparisons to legendary United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. Lammens himself has resisted such talk, insisting he has "a long way to go". But one man who sees the potential is Sir Alex Ferguson.

In an interview with , the former United manager spoke warmly about the young stopper and said: "There are signs, the manager has had some good signs. Particularly the goalkeeper has been outstanding, he’s only played three or four games and he’s looking really good. Of course, [Bryan] Mbeumo and [Matheus] Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it. I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success – the signs are getting better. I think back-to-back wins is something teams like United should always expect. But having gone through a cycle where the improvement has to come by waiting and being patient, they’ll enjoy it now."

Lammens is not worried about the pressure at United and said: "There's been a lot of commotion about the goalkeepers in recent years. They've received a lot of negative comments. I wasn't worried about that. I want to be someone people look up to. My dream is to play here for the next ten years, be important to the club, and build a legacy. That's a long-term goal."

Nizakat, Yasim drag Hong Kong to 143

After the seamers made early inroads, legspinner Rishad kept Hong Kong quiet

Jaffer: Bangladesh need to show consistency in selection

Hong Kong mustered a total of 143 for 7 in 20 overs against Bangladesh, after being inserted by Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi. They started shakily, with early wickets and a sluggish start for Zeeshan Ali (30) and Nizakat Khan (42) keeping Bangladesh in control. But as the Zeeshan-Nizakat partnership grew, so did their range of strokes. Their 41-run stand for the third wicket ensured their batting didn’t collapse like it did in the game against Afghanistan. Hong Kong captain Yasim Murtaza blazed away to a 19-ball 28, but a flurry of late wickets denied Hong Kong a late flourish. As Bangladesh’s players walked off the field, they exchanged high-fives for their effort in the first innings. Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2 for 21) bowled in the early 140kph range in his first spell, and accounted for Babar Hayat (14) and Zeeshan. Hayat was cleaned up by a swinging ball that started on middle and ended up going past his outside edge, while Zeeshan fell to a sharp delivery that hit the splice of the bat and popped up to cover.Taskin Ahmed was expensive but got the early breakthrough by dismissing Anshy Rath. He then removed Aizaz Khan in the final over.Rishad Hossain, the legspinner, was introduced after the powerplay, but Hong Kong countered him with sweeps and reverse sweeps. He finally got among the wickets in 19th over, his last over of the evening, when he had Nizakat caught at long-on. Next ball, he trapped Kinchit Shah lbw.Hong Kong scored 54 runs off the last six overs to get to a respectable total.

Jose Altuve's Woes in Left Field Continue After Latest Spring Training Blunder

Jose Altuve's transition to left field has not been an easy one.

The Houston Astros star is getting in important reps at his new position during spring training after transitioning from second base to left field ahead of the 2025 season. While he's made a few impressive plays in the outfield, he's also made some worrisome mistakes.

His latest gaffe occurred during Wednesday's clash against the New York Mets, when he failed to make what appeared to be a routine catch on a fly ball.

Have a look:

Altuve seemed to get under the ball with plenty of time, but he simply failed to make the catch as the ball careened off his mitt and hit the left field grass. The blunder enabled a run to score for the Mets.

It was his second notable fielding error in the last two days, having made a similar drop in left field on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals.

Of course, adjusting to his new position was always going to take a bit of time, but it's a bit concerning to see him making such critical mistakes on routine plays with the regular season looming less than 10 days away.

Throughout his 14-year career, Altuve has played 1,765 games at second base, 42 as the Astros' designated hitter, and made two appearances at shortstop. He's never played in the outfield during the regular season, but is set to make his left field debut during Houston's season opener against the Mets on March 27.

At the end of the day, there's no better time to make these defensive mishaps than spring training, so hopefully Altuve can get these jitters out of the way before the games start to count.

Rangers make immediate decision in search for new Sporting Director and CEO

Rangers have sacked chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell, with Sky Sports reporter Luke Shanley sharing an update live from Ibrox on Monday regarding the search for their replacements.

The pair have been the target of intense supporter unrest after a disastrous start to the season in which Gers won only one of their first eight league games and suffered seven consecutive European defeats following a much-maligned summer recruitment drive.

As bad as Aasgaard: Rangers must drop Ibrox dud who Rohl "needs more from"

Danny Rohl should drop this Rangers flop who was as bad as Thelo Aasgaard against Livingston.

ByDan Emery Nov 23, 2025

Thelwell’s short spell at Ibrox is largely defined by the decision to appoint Russell Martin, who proved to be Gers’ shortest-serving permanent manager in history when he was sacked in October after just 17 games in charge.

Although domestic form has improved since Danny Rohl replaced Martin as manager, the American owners have acted decisively after taking some time to assess the situation at Ibrox.

“Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell are leaving Rangers Football Club,” said chairman Andrew Cavenagh on Monday.

“Responsible change is measured and steady. Our first priority has been to improve the sporting performance, and that led to our decision to part ways with Russell Martin and bring in Danny Rohl. Danny has now started the process of improving the on-pitch performance, and that has given us the chance to focus on other parts of the club.

“Patrick and Kev are both skilled executives and have delivered a lot for the club in their time with it. We’ve now had six months since we became part of Rangers to assess the club’s needs as well as to get to know Patrick and Kev a bit more.

“Simply put, when we think about what we need in both CEO and sporting director today, it’s different than who we think Patrick and Kev are.

“We want people that align with the vision for the next chapter. I will not throw dirt on either of them. I think very highly of them both on personal and professional levels. It’s just the reality that the club needs different things today than it did six months ago.

“We’ve already started the hiring process and hope to have appointments soon, but we will prioritise quality and fit over speed.”

Fraser Thornton, the Gers’ director, will act as interim CEO, and Shanley shared a quick update on next steps live from Ibrox on Sky Sports News on Monday, revealing Cavenagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe will personally oversee the process.

It should be music to fans’ ears that the new men in charge at Ibrox are taking personal ownership of the hiring process. With arch-rivals Celtic’s board facing their own turmoil, the opportunity is there to snatch back the crown of Scottish football if the American duo can get their next appointments right.

Australia U-19 star Harjas Singh smashes triple century in 50-over grade game

The left hander, who doesn’t hold a state contract, hit 35 sixes in a remarkable display in Sydney on Saturday

Andrew McGlashan04-Oct-2025Former Australia Under-19 batter Harjas Singh, who was part of the side that won the World Cup in South Africa last year, produced an extraordinary display in Sydney grade cricket on Saturday with 314 off 141 balls, including 35 sixes, for Western Suburbs. The phenomenal display from the left hander, who top-scored with 55 in the World Cup final against India, came against Sydney Cricket Club at Pratten Park. The next highest score in the innings was 37.For a little while there was a discrepancy with the online scoring available – perhaps Singh’s onslaught had created a meltdown – but his final tally was confirmed as placing him third on the all-time list in New South Wales Premier first grade history, behind Victor Trumper’s 335 in 1903 and Phil Jaques’ 321 in 2007.It is also comfortably the highest limited-overs score in first grade premier cricket anywhere in Australia. The match was available to follow on YouTube via a single-camera stream (it’s worth noting the current India A vs Australia A series isn’t available to watch) and there was a roar of delight from Singh when he brought up his triple century with a six off left-arm spinner Tom Mullen.

“Definitely that’s the cleanest ball-striking I’ve ever witnessed from myself, for sure,” Singh told after the match. “It’s something I’m quite proud of because I’ve worked in the off-season quite a bit on my power-hitting, and for it to come off today was quite special.”Singh had reached his century in the 35th over, from 74 balls, before making 214 from his next 67.In 2023, Singh made a century in a Test against England U-19s in Northampton. Many of Singh’s U-19 team-mates have gone into state cricket, including captain Hugh Weibgen who made his first-class debut for Queensland on Saturday, but Singh was overlooked for a NSW rookie contract.”I’ve missed out the last season or two, worrying about stuff outside my own game,” he said. “But I feel like I’ve brought myself to just worrying about what’s going on with my own game.”

Xabi Alonso sends out strong message on Jude Bellingham amid talk Real Madrid superstar is not happy with new manager

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso insists he has a “very good relationship” with midfielder Jude Bellingham amid speculation suggesting there is growing tension between the pair. The Spaniard is adamant he has no issues with the England international, who has been in fine form since returning from the shoulder injury which disrupted his 2025-26 campaign.

Bellingham has been in good goalscoring form following return

Missing a large part of the opening period of the season, Bellingham made his return to La Liga in Real’s 2-0 victory over Espanyol on 20 September, emerging from the substitutes bench as goals from Eder Militao and Kylian Mbappe earned all three points for Alonso’s men.

Former Borussia Dortmund ace Bellingham has since been in good goalscoring form for Los Blancos, scoring the winner in October's Clasico victory over rivals Barcelona before netting a last-gasp equaliser in the 2-2 draw with Elche last weekend.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportReport claims England international is frustrated with Alonso

However, while Bellingham has impressed in his first few matches under Alonso’s stewardship, Spanish publication reported earlier in the week that there is believed to be friction between the two. The report claims midfielder Federico Valverde and forwards Rodrygo and Endrick are also unhappy with ex-Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso, who took over the reins from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

Real head coach Alonso insists he has good rapport with Bellingham

But ahead of Real’s trip to Girona in the league on Sunday, Alonso has rubbished talk surrounding his rapport with Bellingham, saying they have "excellent" communication with one another.

When asked if he had any problems with Bellingham, Alonso said: “Absolutely not. I have excellent communication and a very good relationship with Jude. He's a world-class player; he has that drive to improve, learn, and become more efficient with the great potential he has.

“I like players who are curious and proactive enough to come and ask what we can do better. He fits in with different profiles and heights because he's very well-rounded, and we also need to be aware of what's going on around him.”

Getty Images SportEx-Leverkusen boss also defends relationship with Vinicius

It is not the first time Alonso has had to come out and clarify his relationship with a player, having also faced questions over his decision to start Vinicius on the bench for Real’s trip to Elche.

Explaining he and the Brazil international had planned the move before the game, Alonso said after the final whistle: “No, we had discussed it. We talk about it often. He understands; he knew the role he could play. We've done it before, like in Getafe. Today we're not happy, but everyone is eager to get back on track.”

Insisting he and the rest of the Real squad are growing closer, he added: “We haven't fallen apart. We're still competing; the context of each match is different. The result is what matters, and we're aware of that and self-critical. The spirit is good; we have to respond to adversity. This is Real Madrid. We live with criticism; we want to improve.

“The connection is improving; we have more time and interact more, we know each other better. We're all in the same boat, we celebrate victories. We suffer if we don't win. The connection is good. We need to turn this situation around, starting with Athens [against Olympiacos].”

Corbin Carroll Reached Third on a Triple Before the Ball Was Back in the Infield

The Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers, 9-5, on Monday night. While Shohei Ohtani stole the headlines with his league-leading 17th home run, Corbin Carroll may have turned in the play of the game with a triple in the fourth inning.

Facing a 3-2 count to lead off the inning against Landon Knack, Carroll ripped one down the first-base line into the left field corner. The ball took a favorable bounce towards Teoscar Hernandez who fielded the ball cleanly and hit his cutoff man who had no chance.

Carroll had gone first-to-third in just under 11 seconds. The only person who has done that faster this season is Corbin Carroll. And maybe Elly De La Cruz.

For a little perspective that's about as much time as it took Juan Soto to reach first on a ball that hit off the Green Monster on Monday night.

Whatever your stopwatch says about how fast Carroll made it to third on this hit, the fact that the ball rolled right towards Hernandez is probably the only thing that stopped Carroll from a stand up inside-the-park home run. The ball had barely reached second base by the time Carroll was sliding safely into third.

Chelsea set to sign “next-gen Yaya Toure” after reaching “full agreement”

Chelsea’s ambitious recruitment policy targeting world football’s most exciting young talents continues to bear fruit, with yet another sensation reportedly on his way in.

Chelsea lead youth revolution through BlueCo transfer policy

Brazilian rising star Estevao has already provided spectacular vindication of the BlueCo ownership’s recruitment strategy.

The 18-year-old forward, signed for an initial £29 million from Palmeiras in a deal potentially rising beyond £56 million, has adapted seamlessly to Premier League football since arriving this summer.

His stunning Champions League goal against Barcelona highlighted precisely why the west London club fought off competition from the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Barcelona to secure his signature.

Nicknamed “Messinho” during his youth, Estevao has marked himself out as a potential world-class superstar.

South American football expert Tim Vickery proclaimed him “the most talented Brazilian since Neymar,” whilst Enzo Maresca has carefully managed his integration, so far electing to play the teenager out wide.

Chelsea’s pipeline extends far beyond Estevao, with multiple generational talents already contracted for future arrivals.

Chelsea star out for a month through injury with January transfer stance shared

The Blues will be without him for weeks.

ByEmilio Galantini 4 days ago

Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda, dubbed by some Portuguese observers as “the next Cristiano Ronaldo,” will join next summer following a £44 million agreement – securing him for half his £88 million release clause.

Ecuadorian defender Deinner Ordonez has committed to joining in January 2028 from Independiente del Valle, whilst Ecuadorian midfielder Kendry Paez – another highly-rated prospect – will return alongside Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders in 2026.

Kairat Almaty forward Dastan Satpaev and Corinthians left-back Denner are also set to arrive in 2026 with Strasbourg striker Emmanuel Emegha, though a move for the latter won’t be brought forward to January despite Liam Delap’s latest injury (Nizaar Kinsella).

Emmanuel Emegha for Strasbourg

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed Chelsea have signings “already lined up” for summers 2026 and 2027, explaining their extensive recruitment department exists specifically to identify tomorrow’s superstars.

Now, as per Africa Foot, the Blues are closing in on yet another exciting youngster.

Chelsea set to sign Mohamed Zongo after reaching 'full agreement'

According to their information, Chelsea have won the race to sign coveted teenage talent Mohamed Zongo after reaching a ‘full agreement’ for the 16-year-old.

He’s been called the ‘next-gen Yaya Toure’ after emerging as one of Africa’s brightest young stars to watch, and Chelsea have moved to secure the player.

BlueCo have apparently beat off competition from the likes of Man City and Man United for the young prodigy’s signature, who was one of the standout performers at the recent Under-17 World Cup with Burkina Faso’s youth national team.

Zongo is now ‘set to join Chelsea’ despite fierce competition from multiple European clubs, with their comprehensive project convincing all parties involved that Stamford Bridge represents the ideal destination.

However, the youngster will not immediately relocate to London.

Instead, Zongo will continue his progression at Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club, allowing him to adapt gradually to European football in an ideal environment before eventually transitioning to Maresca’s first-team.

Shane Watson joins KKR as assistant coach

The former Australia allrounder was head coach of San Fransisco Unicorns in the MLC recently

ESPNcricinfo staff13-Nov-2025Former Australia allrounder Shane Watson has been appointed assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2026 season, joining a team management that includes Abhishek Nayar (head coach) and Dwayne Bravo (mentor).ESPNcricinfo has learned that Watson and former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee are new additions to the KKR coaching staff, which has been overhauled after the team finished seventh in IPL 2025. Southee has been juggling playing commitments in franchise cricket with a consultant role with England over the past six months.”It’s a great honour to be part of a franchise as iconic as Kolkata Knight Riders,” Watson said in a statement issued by KKR. “I’ve always admired the passion of KKR fans and the team’s commitment to excellence. I’m eager to work closely with the coaching group and players to help bring another title to Kolkata.”KKR is Watson’s second assignment as a coach in the IPL, having been deputy to head coach Ricky Ponting at Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and 2023. He recently left his position as head coach of San Francisco Unicorns in the MLC, where he had worked for three seasons. They had wanted him to take on a year-long role but Watson did not want to give up his broadcast and other coaching commitments.A highly-acclaimed T20 player turned commentator, Watson has been part of title-winning teams in the IPL, BBL and PSL. An MVP during Rajasthan Royals’ run to the title in the inaugural season in 2008, Watson finished his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings. He played a key role as an opener in CSK’s run to the title in 2018, scoring 555 runs – the second highest for the team – in 15 innings, including a century in the final. 'You would say that's an OK season!' – Erling Haaland outlines how he is held to a higher goal-scoring standard than his rivals as Man City hitman calls out Gary Lineker

Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland has claimed he is held to a higher standard than some of his rivals due to his prolific scoring record. The Norway international has been a huge hit since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund and has scored goals for fun for Pep Guardiola's side. However, Haaland says that he now faces more scrutiny than other strikers and a 20-goal season would not be seen as a huge success for him.

Haaland the Premier League record breaker

Haaland has set all kinds of records since joining City and hit a new landmark in the team's recent 5-4 win over Fulham. The striker became the fastest player ever to score 100 Premier League goals, managing the feat in just 111 games and smashing Alan Shearer's previous record of 100 strikes from 124 matches. Haaland has already hit the 20-goal mark for the 2025-26 season in all competitions and his goal-scoring feats mean he is once again one of the favourites to win the European Golden Shoe this season.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportWhat would be a good season for Haaland?

Haaland has now been quizzed on his goal-scoring ambitions by Gary Lineker and Shearer on the podcast. The striker was asked if he set himself targets ahead of the start of a new season. Twenty goals is generally considered to be the benchmark for most top strikers, but Lineker cheekily claimed that Haaland's target "is 40" which received the following response from the Man City star.

What would be a good season for me? I think if I got 20 goals you'd say 'it’s an OK season'. If City win the league and I got 25 goals I think it would be 'a good season', 30 goals it would be 'a really good season', 35 goals 'an amazing season', 36 goals 'a really, really good season'," he said with a smile.

Haaland currently has 15 goals from 15 Premier League outings in the 2025-26 campaign and sits top of the scoring charts in the English top flight.

Haaland says City could replace him

Haaland also admitted that he simply has to keep banging in the goals for City or the club will look to replace him. He added: "If not, they have to replace me. Because if I’m not delivering the goals and the things they need, they have to replace me. So there is a lot of pressure on me to deliver."

The Norwegian also spoke about how he feels the Premier League is the best place for him, particularly working under Guardiola.

"I'm calm, I'm focused, and I'm really happy here, so it's a really good place to be for development. Also in the end, England, it's a football country, and I think it's the best place to play football. I mean, he [Pep] signed a new contract, was it before or after me? I'm not sure. But I knew he was staying for another year or another year-and-a-half, with his contract right now.

"But most of the conversations were with his bosses and my boss as well, because I remember my father said when I was really, not young, but like 10 years ago, he said like, 'Never go to a club because of the manager', which sometimes can be difficult. But also, you never know what's going to happen in the modern world.

"But again, Pep was a big reason why I came to City, of course, to work with him and to be able to experience him and his special ways and his hard work and all of these things. So it's kind of a mix there."
