Jarrod Bowen would offer Everton a more direct alternative to Theo Walcott

[ad_pod ]

According to an exclusive report from Football League World, Everton are interested in signing Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen built on an eye-catching 2017/18 campaign – in which he hit 14 goals – by notching eight more last term; his 22 Championship strikes helped the Tigers to a solid 13th place finish, 12 points adrift of a play-off spot.

Check out a fan’s outrageous call for England to take a leaf of out cricket and rugby’s book after a limp Nations League performance in the video below…

He has emerged as Hull’s talisman, and it would be a real blow for them if he was to leave this summer – even more so after the departure of Nigel Adkins. The aforementioned Football League World report states that Bowen will ‘definitely’ get his move away this summer, and that an unnamed Premier League side has already had an offer rejected.

If Bowen did arrive at Goodison Park, where would he fit into Marco Silva’s plans?

Firstly, the Englishman is a right-sided forward who prefers to play with the intention of troubling the opposition goalkeeper at the forefront of his mind, as the stats reinforce.

He would, in that case, arrive as competition for Theo Walcott on that flank – Bowen appeared 40 times on the right wing last term, whilst the former Arsenal man played 18 games out there not including his appearances from the bench.

Albeit in a league below, Bowen’s stats are far superior.

The 5 ft 9 attacker scored almost five times as many goals as Walcott managed and recorded double the amount of assists, but the finer details bolster the suggestion that Bowen is a more direct goal threat.

The former Hereford United man takes 2.5 shots per game compared to Walcott’s 1.2, which speaks volumes about how hard the 22-year-old tries to put the ball in the net compared to the England international.

Bowen also records almost double the amount of dribbles per game in comparison to the 30-year-old – taking the game to the opposition backline is clearly a priority of his when he steps foot out on to the pitch.

Walcott was a source of great frustration for the Everton supporters last season and fans rejoiced when it was reported that his future seemed uncertain, so if Bowen signed, they would at least be treated to a more exciting presence out on the right flank in 2019/20.

Dack must improve in one area if he signs for West Brom this summer

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s In Numbers series, which takes a statistical look at performances, season-long form and reported transfer targets…

Bradley Dack would help to give West Brom something they desperately lack; creativity from a central area.

Albion are long term admirers of the Blackburn man according to The Daily Mail who after having two bids rejected last summer hint they could come back in for him.

On the evidence of scoring 15 goals and claiming a further seven assists, you’d assume he’d be a good addition. And in terms of his end product that’s certainly the case.

However, there is one specific aspect of his game that he’ll simply have to get better at if he makes the switch, particularly to a team competing at a better level than Blackburn.

The fact is that Dack gets dispossessed too often. In the Championship last term he lost the ball 2.2 times per game, a tally that took him to 93 dispossessions of the football in 42 outings.

Comparing him to those already at West Brom, this is a very high number, eclipsing each and every member of their squad.

The 25-year-old is a fine dribbler of the ball, but it would feel rather wasted if he’s constantly losing possession.

Hal Robson-Kanu and Jacob Murphy were two particularly frustrating figures at the Hawthorns last campaign. The latter put in some woeful displays, losing the ball 1.7 times per match and only finding the back of the net twice after arriving on loan in January.

It’s that kind of player that does enough to enrage supporters and as such, signing another individual who fails to keep hold of the ball could be seen as a negative.

Although his prowess in front of goal compared to Murphy’s would help make up for it, it is an area that needs drastic improvement in order for him to become a hit if he signs.

Watch fans explain why the Football League is better than the Premier League in the video below…

In one game last term, Dack was dispossessed an incredible nine times in a match at home to QPR. He then lost the ball a further five times against Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.

But the worst stat is perhaps the number of times he lost the ball two times in a match. Rather unbelievably, he was dispossessed twice in a game on as many as 17 occasions.

It’s a particular cause for concern and if West Brom return for him this summer, they’ll have to be prepared for some frustrating moments, as well as golden ones in the final third.

West Ham should sign Vavro if only for the winning mentality he would bring

[ad_pod ]

According to Il Messaggero, West Ham are set to try and sign FC Copenhagen defender Denis Vavro.

What’s the deal, then?

Reportedly the Hammers are looking to offer the Danish club more than Lazio have already offered for the Slovakian international, which is £8million plus add-ons.

The Serie A club remain the favourites to secure the 23-year old centre-back as it is thought he wants to move to Italy, but the east London side will be ready to pick him up should the deal fall through.

Manuel Pellegrini could just be putting feelers out for replacements if a scenario presents itself where Issa Diop decides to leave.

The 22 year-old Frenchman had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United earlier this summer, although that looks increasingly less likely given the Red Devils’ £70m bid for Leicester’s Harry Maguire.

Vavro could bring consistency to Hammers even if he is not a starter

If the Slovakian does join the Irons for the new campaign, he will bring with him the experience of winning a league title last time out with Copenhagen.

It is that consistency which Pellegrini has not been able to instil in his team, shown by the fact that they have yet to go more than four games without a defeat under him.

In addition, they beat Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham but lost to AFC Wimbledon, Brighton, Burnley and Cardiff.

So, there is no denying they have the quality to turn up and beat the very best sides, but they do not have the consistency to sustain, for example, a top-six push.

Bringing in a league winner, someone who has been at the heart of a defence which lost just 10 of 52 games last season, will undoubtedly improve a team who have the talent but seemingly not the mindset to be able to consistently churn out results.

It is likely he will be a back-up to the partnership of Diop – if he stays – and Fabian Balbuena, who played a combined 56 Premier League matches in 2018/19.

But irrespective of that, whether or not Vavro will start if he does end up at the London Stadium, he would be a vital addition to the squad as a player who has already achieved great success elsewhere in Europe.

Manchester United fans react as Ander Herrera explains departure

[ad_pod ]

Having joined from Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014, Ander Herrera endured a rather inconsistent career at Manchester United.

The all-action midfielder featured heavily in the early years of his time at Old Trafford, but began to see his first-team opportunities at the club become more and more limited, playing just 22 out of 38 league games last season.

After letting his contract expire this summer, it was confirmed that Herrera had joined French giants PSG on a free transfer. Now, speaking to Marca, the Spanish international has revealed that differences in opinion over his importance in United’s future plans saw him make the decision to leave Old Trafford.

After hearing the 29-year-old’s comments on his United exit, fans of the Manchester side took to Twitter to voice their opinion and many were seemingly divided about the issue.

Some seemed to take Herrera’s comments with a pinch of salt and instead suggested that the Spaniard’s reported wage demands were the main reason behind him choosing to join the cash-rich French side.

Others however seemed to be on the midfielder’s side and empathised with his comments that United’s offer had “arrived late” and felt it was a massive symbol of the current plight at Old Trafford.

Check out some of the mixed reaction of United fans below:

Manchester United fans cannot wait to see Dan James in action

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United are due to fly to Australia on Sunday as the club’s preparations for the 2019-20 campaign get underway.

And Daniel James will surely be hoping to make his debut for the English giants in the clash against Perth Glory on July 13th.

The summer signing from Swansea City has just completed his first week of training with the Red Devils.

And it would be fair to say that a number of the United supporters are looking forward to seeing the Wales international in action.

It is a big ask to expect the 21-year-old to have a huge impact during the 2019-20 campaign considering the extent of his experience amounts to roughly one full season in the Championship.

Who is Man Utd’s worst ever player? Bebe? Eric Djemba-Djemba? The fan in the video below actually think it’s one of the Red Devils’ current crop…

However, the United fans are confident when it comes to the 5 ft 7 attacker’s ability and one supporter even claimed that James was now his favourite player.

Newcastle fans react to Wolves joining the Joelinton race

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle fans still can’t seem to catch a break in this summer transfer window.

One of their long-term targets, Hoffenheim’s Joelinton, might slowly be slipping away as we speak, if the latest report coming from Kicker is to be believed.

The German outlet state that Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle’s Premier League rivals, have joined the race for the 22-year-old centre-forward and are willing to pay a significant fee to land him.

The Chronicle say the Magpies have a long-standing interest in the player and have sent scouts to watch him play, but unsurprisingly fans are not feeling confident about potentially signing him.

And even if they could match Wolves’ financial power, which the fans don’t really see happening, would the player still choose them over a more stable and ambitious club?

All of those concerns led many of them to believe that this transfer is simply not happening and that the player is bound to become a Wolverhampton player soon enough.

Manchester United urged to "bite the bullet" with Paul Pogba by ESPN pundit

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking on ESPN FC, Ian Darke has urged Ed Woodward to “bite the bullet” and sell Paul Pogba this summer amid speculation the Frenchman could be on his way out of Manchester United.

What did he say?

The France World Cup winner has been the subject of intense transfer rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid, after revealing that he wanted a “new challenge” for next season.

Now, Darke has questioned what Pogba’s actual worth to the side is when on the pitch and suggested that United would be better off using the money they could get for the midfielder and reinvesting it elsewhere.

He said: “Here’s a player who said he wants a new challenge, and his agent Mino Raiola said the same thing. It looks like they’ve been hankering for that move to Real Madrid. Now you’ve got the Manchester United manager saying that everything is hunky dory, he’s spoken to him and he wants to stay.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

“He didn’t really come off, he was high maintenance, you couldn’t really build a team around him. If I were Ed Woodward, I would bite the bullet and take the money, sell him and use that money to rebuild that team.”

Time running out

There is little to disagree with Darke’s statement that Pogba is “high maintenance”. The Frenchman’s self-professed flamboyant personality and off-the-pitch presence certainly take the eye away from his footballing abilities, and the entire circus surrounding his current transfer situation is testament to that too.

As the transfer deadline approaches, the time United would have to attempt to find a replacement for Pogba is dwindling by the second. For all the question marks surrounding him, if United could not find someone else to sign, Pogba would undoubtedly still be a prominent part of the side’s starting eleven.

What is perhaps adding to the drama too is Pogba’s impressive performances in pre-season. The 26-year-old has looked at his creative best and is showing no signs of letting the transfer speculation affect his displays. If United end up with the midfielder still at the club by the end of the window, then this pre-season form and attitude suggests he could put the saga to one side and concentrate on his football again.

9 Premier League transfers that could be completed this week

The clock is ticking as the Premier League’s 20 clubs ready themselves for the new season. We can certainly expect some last-minute business to be done, as is usually the case, but most sides should be hoping to complete their deals before next week to give themselves enough time to gel. Here, we take a look at nine transfers that could go through before Sunday…

Surely Harry Maguire will be a Manchester United player come the Red Devils’ first match of the season against Chelsea on August 11th? The Leicester City defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and has even told his teammates and manager Brendan Rogers that he wants to make the switch. He missed the Foxes’ training session on Monday (Sky Sports’ Transfer Blog, 29/07/2019 at 13.25) which, whilst it was confirmed that the England international called in sick, is not good news for the 2016 Premier League champions’ hopes of keeping him.

Given Arsenal’s slender transfer budget, it seemed unlikely that they would be able to sign Lille’s Nicolas Pepe this summer considering he was always going to command a high transfer fee. However, football, just like life, is full of surprises, and it now appears to be only a matter of time before the Ivory Coast international is holding up a Gunners shirt. The Emirates outfit have agreed a fee of £72m for the 24-year-old, with a deal expected to be completed by Wednesday.

The best bit of recent business for Tottenham Hotspur did not actually include them at all. Nabil Fekir recently completed a move to Real Betis from Lyon, which now leaves the path clear for Giovani Lo Celso to make his anticipated switch to London. The Argentina international has already been left out of the Spanish side’s pre-season tour squad, and they have reportedly even reduced their transfer fee demands to get a deal done.

Newcastle have already made one big money signing this summer, having brought in Joelinton from Hoffenheim for £40m, and they are progressing in deals for two more new faces. Firstly, it is being reported by The Daily Star that they are close to completing a deal for Nice’s Allan Saint-Maximin. The winger has already told his teammates that he wants to make the switch to the North-East side this summer.

The second player who is close to a move to St. James’ Park is PSG’s Stanley N’Soki. According to French outlet RMC Sport, Newcastle and the Ligue 1 champions have agreed a fee of €11m (£10m) for the left-back. It is being reported that the deal also includes a 20% sell-on percentage fee clause. Whilst the fee may be set, the 20-year-old and the Premier League side are yet to agree terms, but talks are to continue in an attempt to come to an accord.

What a transfer window it has been for Aston Villa. The newly-promoted club have already brought in 10 players this summer for a combined fee of £115.11m, and they are on the verge of adding an 11th. Dean Smith and co have agreed a fee of £11m with Club Brugge for Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba.

It would be a huge coup for Everton to sign Moise Kean this summer, but it appears to be on the cards. According to Sky Sports, Everton and Juventus are in talks in regards to the Italy international. Maurizio Sarri and co are looking for a fee of £36m for the 19-year-old and want any deal to include a buy-back clause. The striker has reportedly agreed to make the switch, which is a boost for the Toffees.

Watford have a decent track record when it comes to transfers in recent years, with the purchase and sale of Richarlison in particular standing out. They will be hoping that Ismaila Sarr can have a similar impact if he completes his switch to Vicarage Road. The Hornets are in talks with Rennes about the Senegal international, and they are hopeful that an agreement can be reached.

The Bruno Fernandes saga has been one of the most captivating stories of the summer. The Portugal international has been linked to Tottenham, Liverpool (Journal de Noticias via The Daily Express) and Manchester United at various stages of the transfer window and, whilst it is not yet clear exactly where his next destination will be, it is almost certain that he will leave Sporting Lisbon this summer. This comes after the 24-year-old was reduced to tears as he was subbed off during his team’s pre-season friendly with Valencia.

Liverpool fans react to Philippe Coutinho rumours as Tottenham circle

[ad_pod ]

According to The Times, Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer to sign Barcelona attacker Philippe Coutinho on loan for the 2019-20 campaign.

Coutinho moved to Spain from Liverpool in January 2018 but has struggled to make his mark for the Catalan giants.

The Brazil international has contributed a respectable 21 goals and 11 assists in 76 appearances for Barcelona but he struggled to make his mark last season – netting just five times in 34 La Liga matches.

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino briefly coached Coutinho at Espanyol.

And according to The Times, Spurs have made an offer to sign the South American on loan for the 2019-20 season, which is likely to cost the London club in the region of £21m if it goes through.

As expected, the Liverpool fans have been vocal on social media since the story broke late on Tuesday afternoon.

And a selection of the reaction from the Merseyside club’s fans can be seen below:

Scout report: Newcastle’s club-record signing Joelinton

[ad_pod ]

Following the departure of Rafa Benitez, a man admired by all in Tyneside, the Newcastle supporters have been mightily disappointed. That decision, coupled with the appointment of Steve Bruce, has soured an already toxic relationship between the support and Mike Ashley.

Despite their patent anger, Newcastle’s transfer business could help ease the toxicity.

And the club’s decision to break their transfer record for the second time this year in a £40m deal for Joelinton has at least provided a slither of optimism for fans to desperately latch on to.

But who is the recently signed Newcastle striker?

Here’s everything you need to know about Joelinton.

Background

Born in Aliança, Brazil, Joelinton is a 22-year-old striker who joined Hoffenheim from Sport Recife in 2015.

After landing in Europe the Brazilian forward then spent a couple of seasons on loan with Austrian side, Rapid Wien. During his time in Austria, the striker amassed 79 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing nine assists in the process – a respectable if not relatively modest return for a striker plying his trade away from one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

Last season denoted his first full campaign in Germany’s top-flight, and he is yet to attain an international cap for Brazil.

What are his attributes?

The 22-year-old is most proficient when deployed as a striker, where he has made most of his appearances during his career.

That said, the Brazilian can play in a multitude of his positions. Throughout his club career, Joelinton has played in five different positions, including both flanks and attacking midfield.

When watching the forward play, the Brazilian’s proficiency inside the penalty area is apparent. He’s capable of finishing with either foot or with his head. As a product of his versatility, he’s willing to drop deep to retain possession, and he can create meaningful opportunities with his noticeable passing quality.

When dribbling with the ball, Joelinton is powerful, purposeful and direct, which often renders defenders incapable of stopping him. As expected of his Brazilian heritage, the forward is a skilful and creative player who can combine with teammates effectively in attack.

At times, his first touch is too heavy, but generally he has the flair and the necessary skill to compose himself and evade defenders.

His pace and power would be well attuned to the Premier League’s gruelling physical demands and its frantic tempo.

2018/19 in numbers

Joelinton enjoyed an impressive inaugural season in the Bundesliga having averaged a goal contribution every two games. In 28 league outings, the forward registered a commendable tally of 14 goal contributions (seven goals, seven assists).

He also impressed in other competitions for Hoffenheim by scoring in the Champions League against Lyon, while also scoring a hat-trick against 1.FC Kaiserslautern in the German cup.

In total, the 22-year-old contributed towards 20 goals (11 goals, nine assists) in 35 appearances in all competitions. Newcastle supporters would rightfully be delighted if the striker emulates those numbers during his maiden Premier League campaign.

Following a familiar path?

The most famous and successful Hoffenheim export to the Premier League has been Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino.

A fellow Brazilian forward like Joelinton, Firmino enjoyed a tremendous spell in Germany with Hoffenheim. In 185 appearances for the German side, Firmino contributed towards a mightily imposing total of 85 goals (49 scored, 39 assists).

The 27-year-old has bettered his game and statistical output at Liverpool, contributing towards 113 goals – 67 goals and 47 assists – in 192 games. The Newcastle faithful will be ecstatic if their signing can attain a fraction of the success that Firmino has enjoyed in England’s top-flight.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Demba Ba and Havard Nordtveit are other notable figures who departed Hoffenheim for the Premier League.

Demba Ba enjoyed the most fruitful goal scoring spell of his Premier League career with the Toon.

He scored 29 goals in 58 games in all competitions in the iconic black and white shirt and his prolific return made him a revered figure on the terraces at St James’ Park.
